GlossyBox Review – May 2015

GlossyBox is a beauty subscription box that run $21 a month or less if you decide you want to go in for a longer subscription. The box includes higher end brands as well as ones you can peep at Target. Usually most items are full size. I would admit that GlossyBox is one of my favorite beauty subscriptions because they tend to send out some interesting skincare items.

I also have found that their customer service has been really good in my personal dealings with them. It might take a few days for them to get back to me but they have always resolved issues I have had. Like when I forgot to use a coupon code, or the time I thought I signed up but it did not go through.

The actual boxes they pack the items in are really nice. I find it so tough to throw them out, and this is not just because I am a sad hoarder who holds on to crap I really shouldn’t. If you like packaging they really bring it!

I took all the pictures in my hotel room while traveling for business with the full intent to write a review. What happened was a I opened a bottle of wine and $6 hotel water and watched trash TV until super late at night, all the while feeling sorry for the person in the next room because they had a super bad cough. It felt like they were in the same room with me just coughing. I wanted to knock on their door and offer them some sweet sweet sleeping pills so that they could rest a bit, but how weird would that be?!?

Anyway the pics aren’t that great but they never really are on my blog. One day!

Sebastian Professional - Stylebrid 9
Sebastian Professional – Stylebrid 9

Sebastian Professional – Stylebrid 9: When I opened my box it smelled like a fruity scent and I can only guess that some of this somehow leaked out during transit. That is ok, because the hotel room I was in smelled weird. Like as if someone has smoked in it a few months ago. Anyway it was nice to have a good smell!

This is supposed to provide heat protection, add volume, texture, provide curl definition, UV protection, and enhance natural shine. It can also work as a finishing spray or hairspray. It holds a lot of promise and I have not been able to see if it really delivers everything it says it will. Still a fun product, and I will be excited if it provides even three of the nine of what it is supposed to do.

How funny would it be to go somewhere with a huge toiletry bag but only have this in it? I would pull it out of the bag dramatically and act like it was REALLY heavy. “It is NINE products in ONE!” I would exclaim.

GlamGlow - Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment
GlamGlow – Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment

GlamGlow – Powermud Dualcleanse Treatment: Does the idea of “mud to oil” fill you with wonder? Does the idea of it prey on your mind? What if the pigs in George Orwell’s had access to this type of technology? How would have things gone down then?

Questions aside I can see how this brand has a cult following. I usually hate washing my face, but this was fun to try out. Glamglow was the co-founders “actor friends.” I am a bad friend and I have never invented anything.

Put this on and as you wait for it to dry call your parents and tell them you know you have made it when you can put four different types of mud on your face!

Teeez Trend Cosmetics - Head Over Heels Nail Lacquer (Cotton Candy)
Teeez Trend Cosmetics – Head Over Heels Nail Lacquer (Cotton Candy)

Teeez Trend Cosmetics – Head Over Heels Nail Lacquer:  I am typing this with chipped nails from my last nail painting. I really need to get my life in order or at the very least my nail situation. The package is beyond busy  and I am not sure what this brand is going for. I guess trendy and sitting here in my sweatpants blogging about boxes on a sunny Saturday pretty much underscores the fact that I am in no position to judge what is trendy or not.

I do like the color a lot (Cotton Candy) and  I think it will look great in the summer. It says it will not chip for three days. I will put that to the test for sure. I like that it has a high gloss finish because usually high gloss polishes are a bit more forgiving while doing the actual painting.

I can rest assured that this has an “impeccable finish” so there wont be any crap talking about my talons when I rock this polish!

Doucce - Mineral Matt Lipstick (907)
Doucce – Mineral Matt Lipstick (907)

Doucce – Mineral Matt Lipstick: I am not sure if the “Matt” is supposed to be “Matte” but I am just going off of the info card. I have yet to try this out but am not overly excited about my shade. I seem to always get this dusty rose type color from boxes. Shades vary so it will be interesting to see what every one else was sent. I am not a huge fan of my lips anyway. I have what I call “bird lips.” They are thin, small, and even my mouth is small. Anyway, I think it is great that this has SPF in it and vitamin E.

With this lipstick you don’t need to have to excuse yourself to go to the “powder room” you can now excuse yourself to go “take a Doucce.”

Clearista - Retexturizing Gel
Clearista – Retexturizing Gel

Clearista – Retexturizing Gel:  Because this has an “ista” on the end of its name I figured it would be a good product for me! Basically you massage this into your skin and it helps with complexion issues and exfoliates. I am cursed with dry skin so this will get used for sure. I just have a ton of products to get through before I even think about cracking this baby open.

Texture is so big right now, why stop at food and walls… bring texture to your face!

Verdict: This box was worth the cost to me. Although it was not my favorite. It came with a good assortment of products and fun things I would never try on my own. If I am not glowing by the end of using these products then I probably only have myself to blame! 😉

I love the lipstick comment. That comment made my night!

I never understood the Glossybox love until I bought a couple mystery boxes. Glossybox still scares me. I can’t believe that you received your May box early enough to take with you on your business trip! It seems that most people receive it later in the month or the following month. I even went back and doublecheck it was a Glossbox review when I read about the excellent service you received 🙂

I do get the Glossybox love. I loved the mystery boxes and reused the boxes to store nail polishes. Google reusing Glossyboxes if you are bored. People are creative with them. It was a big topic when I started reading sub box blogs.

I’m afraid to google it because then I’ll hold on to them hahaha I have always received my boxes on time and was surprised to read that other people did not. I had problems once with a coupon code but they not only replied but also let me use it a week after it was done. I don’t think they reply as quickly as others but they sort everything out in the end. This box wasn’t as awesome as the past two in my opinion but I’m still happy. Lol thanks for laughing at the lipstick line! I was hoping you would get it hahaha

Any ingredients listed with that lipstick? I like the GlamGlow, I got to try it before I found out that I am allergic to the preservative. It is always funny how many things hair stuff can do, but if they do that how can they sell so many different things for your hair??? Not a bad box, first one I have skipped since last summer though as I really don’t need hair stuff or nail polish and am allergic to two other items. I LOVE Glossybox boxes, I find them great to sort and store all my makeup/skincare so I can (hopefully) find the next thing to try. I actually have an entire shelf that is just storing extra Birchboxes and Glossyboxes right now, so I am right up there on the box hoarding…

Weirdly no ingredients listed…hmmmmmm…now I’m wondering! I had a large box collection but now have no room. I really need to donate more items. I agree if this really does all of what it says I’ll be shocked. I bought a year of glossy when they had that oprah code. I personally could have skipped this month two because these items are pretty well stocked in my stash.

Ugh this month I got so many eyebrow products …

Doucce responded on MSA to email for an ingredient list. I read the Bijioux review and loved it. Boys are a handful tonight. Got to go.

I’m still trying to get over getting green nail polish, even though my profile reads that I do not use nail polish (I thought each Glossy Box was created based on the beauty profile). At age 55, not sure that I would pick green polish even if I did use the stuff. The lipstick was dry and tacky. The rest was okay – not great. The box was not what it was hyped to be. My grade: C-

Omg you got GREEN nail polish?!? That is so crazy! I can see why you’d grade it C- getting that. I have not seen that variation. I almost wish I got it because it would be more fun to write about lol I didn’t try the lipstick yet but I hoped for a more “me” color. Are you going to stay subb’d?

The color of the polish is “Toxic Wave” . I have five more boxes to go before deciding whether to stay with GB.

Wow, the name sort of clues me in! I hope that next month is a better month for you. I just hope they don’t put any brow stuff in. I have so much brow stuff and I don’t use any of it.

I have no problems with green nail polish, but I can’t picture it looking attractive if the name is “Toxic Wave”. What a strange name for something that you will put on your nails.

I checked their website and the wrong color is featured unless my monitor can’t depict Toxic Waste.

Nice box, I am on beauty box break until I clean out stash.
All lipsticks turn this dusty rose shade on me, regardless of color.

Yes, I took inventory and gave some goodies to friends. How many mascaras and glosses can you use in a year, really? Please don’t get me started on my LUSH stash…

So my LUSH stash is bad because things from the brand get old so fast. Have you ever gone to dip into it and been like “oh no!” Because the bath melt turned into a stone? I have a hilarious LUSH story from Vegas I want to share but I just got home from a very long drive. So embarrassing!

haha, I look forward to your story, and I try to use up Lush by expiration. You can always bring it it to store for exchange, they do stand behind their products.
