Ipsy Review – June 2015

Ipsy (www.ipsy.com) is a subscription that costs $10 a month and sends out four or five deluxe sample size beauty items. Because of the price point it invites comparisons with Birchbox. Ipsy is more make up based, and has a “waitlist.” You can skip this wait if you pimp out your social media. I just emailed and asked to be put on the list and it was done very quickly.

The bag does not look like summer. It looks more like Halloween. I wonder what the thought process behind this bag was. I assume it is supposed to bring to mind a bathing suit trend. Indeed the material is like neoprene. While I am not in love with this months bag I will probably still keep it and use it for traveling. If something breaks in it I will not be super sad!

Altchek MD - DePuff Eye Pads
Altchek MD – DePuff Eye Pads

Altchek MD – DePuff Eye Pads: When can we make puffy eyes a trend? I am serious here. So many of us have this “problem” why not band together and make it cool as a solution? Until then I will try just about anything to tame my ever growing puffy problem area. I popped a packet in the refrigerator as they suggested.

If you have a guy in the house make sure to mention that your DePuff Eye Pads cooling in the refrigerator are not rare delicacies to eat.

Aurora - Intensively Precise Eyeliner

Aurora – Intensively Precise Eyeliner: I have super round eyes. I mean SUPER round. There is no almond shape to them and it kills me that I cannot easily give myself a cat eye look. I am still going to try because I believe it can happen if I just believe.

I always wonder if women with good handwriting do better with liquid liners. I would love to be able to have a steady hand and the patience behind it to make my eyes look like dreamy old Hollywood sirens used to have. Then I could wear a long negligee and glide around the house with a drink in my hand exclaiming, “It’s five o’clock somewhere darling, now put your smoking jacket on the davenport and take me into your arms!”

If they brought back Quill pens I would be seriously screwed.

Smashbox - Photo Finish Foundation Primer
Smashbox – Photo Finish Foundation Primer

Smashbox – Photo Finish Foundation Primer: This primer is a favorite of many a beauty blogger. It really is an enduring product and one of the first primers I tried. I really like it because it really does help foundation stay on while still feeling light. My big issue is my laziness that is so strong I am hard pressed to take the extra step to apply it every day.

Rumor has it that race horses put this on their snouts every race day!

J. Cat - Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain
J. Cat – Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain

J. Cat – Liptitude 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain: Something is seriously wrong with me because I could not find where the color was listed on the bottle. This is a pretty big bottle! I put it on and it went on less sheer than I thought it would. That last comment sort of means nothing because you have no idea what I think is sheer but I will let it stand. Anyway, it feels like it is keeping my lips moist and there is a slight cooling sensation which I love. My problem is that the color does not really suit my face. Maybe I need time to get used to it so I will try it another time just in case. I would totally try this in another color!

Don’t you pout your lips at me young lady, I won’t take any of that Liptitude!

Trestique - Mini Shaow Crayon (Marimoto Pink Pearl)
Trestique – Mini Shaow Crayon (Marimoto Pink Pearl)

Trestique – Mini Shaow Crayon (Marimoto Pink Pearl): This reminds me of another brands very popular color. I wonder if it a dupe for it? I will report back if I can figure it out. I really like this little crayon because it glides on and has a very fine powdery finish. Some eye crayons can be too wet and migrate to the crease of the eye. This one really does look like a power. I also like how soft the color is and it will work with a lot of different contour shadows. Also note that if you get the full size of the product they include a smudge brush that is attached. A lot of their products have tools that are incorporated into the make up item itself.

I wonder what kind of cool make up options we would have if Q from James Bond designed make up?

Verdict: This bag felt a little light. Probably because the products were on the smaller side. There were two full size items and the value is most definitly there for me. I can not stress enough the pros of giving Ipsy a few months to give you things you like. Make sure to fill out the reviews on the Ipsy site because they actually listen to them and try to tailor products to what you say you like. I have noticed this as my subscription goes on. I may branch out a bit more on my reviews but I am always happy to try out products each month for only $10. I could easily spend that on a lipstick I don’t end up liking!

I read this the other day and enjoyed it. We’ve been having bad storms which scares my 6 year old. It doesn’t help that the weather alert sounds on the phone. It went off again and now he is worried about flooding. Did someone try to eat eye pads? I can see my husband doing that. I saw that you are interested in the BB hair clip. I’ll send you mine.

He’s scared of the storms. Hopefully I can finish my thoughts later.

You are the best! I also got your super awesome package today! I am feeling a bit under the weather and it is awesome to get something so nice!!!

Whoa stay safe in the storms. I hate storms too. I don’t think I grew out of it.

The eye pads were on the menu!

I don’t remember my thoughts anymore. I do like the one liners. I also liked that you linked to NaNa’s review.

I have always loved storms! I grew up on a big lake in northern Minnesota, so in the summer storms when I was around 7 to 12 years old, I would grab my younger sister , strip down to our panties, jump up and down in the lake with the waves crashing against our backs, trying to catch our breathes, and singing “Jesus loves me, this I know” while the thunder and lightening crashed around us. My mother prayed a lot while I was growing up.

Cute review and how many calories in an eye pad? For liquid liners, use eye pencil first, and then layer liquid liner on top for more precise application.

Thanks Kelly! Ok I will try that!!! You have no idea how helpful these tips are. I am sorta clueless a lot of the time. I shudder to think what I’d walk around looking like without the internet…

As for calories? Yes. It is my understanding eye pads have like 40 calories but if you were to say, think they were an exotic treat, they drop to 10 calories.

It’s all science and super complicated so people will have to just trust me.

It drove me nuts trying to figure out the color of the J.Cat lip gloss. I figured it out by the numbers on the bottle. If yours says LLS115 it’s “Blow Your Mind” (which is the one I got) and if it is LLS117 it’s “Hikalicious.” (sp?) Why they felt the need to irk OCD people like myself with this remains a mystery….lol!
