I do not have a favorite beauty aid. I do have a beauty aid from a subscription box that I am afraid to use. It is…

The scary flat iron!
The scary flat iron!

The scary flat iron is a staple in most women’s lives.

EVA-NYC Healthy Heat Ceramic Styling Iron
EVA-NYC Healthy Heat Ceramic Styling Iron

This morning is the morning for the now defunct Nicky Hilton Fancy box items. I received the EVA NYC Galaxy Ceramic Styling Iron in the October 2014 Nicky Hilton Fancy box. My hair is super thick and long. It takes my hairstylist (what is the correct word?) 45 minutes to flat iron my hair with a slight wave in it.

Scary!

Scary!

I took the styling iron out of the box for the first time. I want to try it. Any tips?

This little guy was out and about the yard today. We have a few that visit our yard and garden every year. J is exciting because now they are big. Fun test – Do you recognize this insect?

I should take a picture of the fireflies at twilight and post it for our west coast readers. They live east of the Mississippi River.

What is your favorite beauty aid item? Any flat iron tips? Do you recognize the insect? Share below and anything else on your mind.

    Is it a praying mantis?

I think I love my blow dryer the most even if it’s bad for me! I have wavy/curly hair but it’s fine and I can blow dry it straight fairly easily. It still frizzes in humidity… So the flat iron or 2-inch barrel curling iron can help straighten it back out. I like the fat curling iron bc I can make the ends of my hair look nicer with a slight bend.

My advice: defenitely use some kind of heat protector on your hair! It’s a 10 or Chi or any of the hundreds on products that you probably have received in a sub box. :). Also, high heat if there are options since your hair is thick. Then you’ll have to play around with how fast to go on your hair (in sections of course – use the clips from the awful July BeautyFix maybe) – I tend to start “fast-ish” and slow down if my hair isn’t getting straight enough. You will probably need to go slower but I know you want to feel comfortable that you’re not frying your hair.

    Good luck! Post pics!

I purchased the Easygoing Ending Dress from Modcloth for a wedding. http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/easygoing-ending-dress My hairdresser is out on maternity leave. I might wear my hair somewhat straight for the wedding. I thought maybe I would try practicing flat ironing it. I do have a chi protector spray from a sub box that i can use. Thank you for the suggestions!

Oops! It is a Praying Mantis! Every year we have a few that hang around our garden and house along with a couple walking sticks.

Ah geez I have always loved that flat iron, it’s way TOO PRETTY. If you’re interested in selling it, I’ll gladly take it 😉

as for my own HG beauty aids, I totally agree with Kelly, the Clarisonic is my favorite. It absolutely changed my skin tone and texture. For my hair I use an InStyler. It’s a little gimmicky cause it started as an infomercial but it makes styling my overly thick hair very easy. It straightens and curls.
