Relish Clothing Mystery Box – August 2015

Disclosure: There are no affiliate/referral links. This box was paid for by me.

Update: Relish is out of business. I am getting all the details and prefer to do some research before reporting what went on. However, if you have an order that has not been filled I suggest you contact your credit card company!

I am leaving the rest of the review as written since this was true at the time and I don’t like to change the record on this blog.

We are a light-hearted, fun blog. Enjoy reading!

I feel bad for our readers. Knowledgeable and seasoned clothing box subscribers may find this difficult to read. It’s like the professional musician listening to someone sing off tune. This may not be music to your ears. Never fear, Subscriptionista is here to save everyone! I requested that she add in her wonderful clothing know-how to the review.

Subscriptionista: Don’t worry it’s not like you haven’t been wearing clothing for years… Unless you have a nudist farm. Which would be so AWESOME! Though I’d never look at the lap cats the same again.

Subscription: Relish Clothing Mystery Box

Cost: small size box $99.00, medium box $149.00, large box $199.00

What to Expect: small box: 4-5 items clothing and/or accessories, medium box: 6-7 items clothing/and or accessories, large box: 9-10 items clothing/and or accessories

My requests: I had no idea what I was doing. I babbled about being a mom to two boys that keep me busy. I wanted casual tops mostly with a couple of dressier tops. I wanted tops that did not require me to think about what type of bra to wear or see-through. I gave her my bra size and height. I prefer bold colors over pastels.  I mentioned one item from a review that I liked and one item from the shop. Here’s part of what I wrote, ” I never did this before and am a little nervous about it. I want to look stylish with fun clothes.” I also requested that a top be from Skies are Blue.

I think Haper did a great job. I did not realize the amount of details I left out until  I read what others posted.

Disclaimer: I posted a few pictures of me wearing the clothes. I’ve gained weight due to health issues over the past year and a half. Posting pictures of myself on the internet is the last thing I want to do. I posted the pictures for all the women who had to walk into a clothing store and got that look from the salesperson.

Subscriptionista: If anyone stares too hard ask them if they want to guess what color your undies are. Then inform them that your undies actually match the color of their eyes. Stare deeply with your mouth slightly open.

I did not steam my clothes. All pet hair belongs to me. The clothes came free of pet hair.

Sub Bella: Love Stitch Dream Rose Pleasant Blouse: I included the link because I think it is a beautiful bohemian top. I wanted to walk barefoot in a field of flowers while wearing this top. The 100% rayon top worked well in a large for me. It gave me enough room on top without being tight in the stomach area. It’s long enough that I can reach for items without embarrassing anyone. Apparently, moms can be embarrassing.

Another feature that I like is how it features my chest. I kept the pictures PG. The strings do untie. It’s a fun shirt to wear out with my husband. I’ll have to drop stuff in front of him and pick them up to keep things interesting.

Subscriptionista: Really feminine and shows off your rack without looking cheap and like you WANT to show it off. It looks bright and cheery with the benefits of sleeves for when you are feeling summery even if it is a wee bit chilly. It looks like you have a built in cat toy tassel there so be careful!

The spot is on my camera lens. I lost natural lightening and did not retake the photo.

Sub Bella: Cable and Gauge Solid Green Top: The size large top fits well on top. The 95% viscose and 5% spandex shirt curves around the chest and pulls in around the stomach. In other words, it’s not boxy. My favorite feature of this shirt is that I can button my sleeves up half way. This is perfect for those times when I need to roll up my sleeves for children’s projects and baking. The buttons and cuffs dress up the shirt making it perfect for me to grab out of my closet without worrying what to wear. Add jeans, boots and it is done. The color is perfect. Green is a stable in my wardrobe.

Subscriptionista: Updated basics get a lot of play in my wardrobe because they are easy to match with other things and I think my brain only runs at a very basic level in the morning and patterns can overwhelm it. Green is always a fun color (just ask your lawn, it will back me up) and now you have no excuse if you get punched on Saint Paddys Day!

Staccato Boho Summer Kimono Cardigan

It's comfy!
It’s comfy!
Little Lamb wanted to take his nap.
Little Lamb wanted to take his nap.

Sub Bella: Staccato Boho Summer Kimono Cardigan: I don’t normally hold Little Lamb this way. I was trying to keep my face out of the picture. I also don’t paint my nails in the summer time because of the farm. Nail polish can flake off into product and that is a no-no. I also wear gloves to keep my nails healthy.

What about the cardigan? I love the cardigan! The size M/L cardigan is made out of 100% viscose.  It’s a fun piece that is exactly what I asked for and different than what I see in my area. It reaches about 2 inches about my knees. My teenager said I looked like someone who knows about herbs and plants 🙂

Colorwise – Blue is my neutral. It’s an amazing piece to add to my wardrobe.

Subscriptionista: I’m digging this kimono cardigan because it is easy to paid with a shirt and looks really fun on. I can see other women stopping you to give you a compliment. I also see them jealously touching the fabric, which is a bummer but I’m going to call it right now. I always say when I try to look nice that I actually dressing for women and not men. Women notice! This is great because it can dress up jeans and a cami without being sparkly or looking like you are trying. No, you just exist in a fabulous state!

Back of the sweater.

Sub Bella: Skies are Blue purple woven sleeveless knit: I noticed a pull in the sweater when I first took it out on the day of delivery. The next day it became a hole. I did try this with a bright red bra which looked incredible to me. I also tried this on with a black tank top underneath making it look more subdued. I will be contact Harper regarding the sweater. I am disappointed because this is my favorite piece although my area may not be ready for a woman in her 40s wearing a purple sleeveless sweater with red showing through.

The size large sweater fitted me well. It cling in all the right places without making me look pregnant. The knit is made out of 49% cotton and 51% viscose. It is warm enough to wear in the fall with or without a jacket which is perfect for the fluctuating temperatures.

Subscriptionista: I think you would make A LOT of guys get into trouble in this. I mean, even without the hole starting to form. Let us know what she says regarding the item. Things like this happen and what will be telling is how fast the issue is dealt with.

Sub Bella: August Silk Patterned Sleeveless Top – Harper sized up to an XL for this top. I agree because of how it fits over the stomach area. I am wondering if adding my age would make a difference in selection. I am in my 40s, and the girls don’t sit as high as they used to. I don’t know if it is the style of the top or the age issue. It looks a little deflated in that area.

Strangely this is my husband’s favorite shirt. I did pair this with a suit jacket that no longer fits 🙁 I know it doesn’t match. I wanted to show you how it adds a pop of color to a suit that is so me. I love the vibrant colors. This is a great dressier piece.

Subscriptionista: I like this top a lot. It is a cowl neck which fits lose around the boobies (medical term look it up) and adds some spicy flare. Will it slink down lower? Will she get bored and stuff a cat in her shirt? All these things CAN happen with a cowl neck! I am digging that it has short sleeves so it won’t get too warm when paired with a jacket.

Sub Bella: Hmmm. I guess it fits right. I’m not into the deflated look. Are we allow to use the word boobies? What will people think of us?

Sub Bella: Le Lis Casual Top – Ignore the spots. It is my camera lens and not the shirt. I was not happy at the beginning that I had a black shirt. I don’t own black. I tried on the large shirt and had a different experience. The 95% rayon and 5% spandex mix gives it a va-va-voom look. I paired this with a black bra. It is slightly transparent and caused my husband to do a double-take.

It also works with a tank top making it into an acceptable shirt for everyday life. I was pleasantly surprised by this shirt.

Subscriptionista: I at first did not understand this shirt. It looked like two shirts to me and i was thinking “Sub Bella I know reviewing can sometimes be tedious but you can’t just layer two shirts and count it as one!” I was wrong. This reminds me of when I used to try to be more fashionable and mix patterns. It probably would have gone a lot better if I had shirts that already did it for me!

Edited to add:

The label
The label

I took a picture of the label. Any guesses?

Sub Bella: I can’t read the label. Google did not give me any hits. I think  the label is Saievergate. The size large shirt is a nice lightweight transitional shirt going into the cooler temperatures of fall. The V-neck is a flattering cut on me. It is a long shirt that fully covers my but. I’m 5’3″. It looks transparent in the pictures. I paired it with a tan bra and noticed no issues.

This is my least favorite piece. This has nothing to do with Relish. I do not like lots of patterns on my shirt. I will note that the next time I place an order. It’s a good, everyday, won’t offend anyone type of shirt. It fit well and is flattering. It will be worn often and may end up growing on me.

Subscriptionista: I personally like this top a lot. I think you should model it and we can open a “Private Pay Area” on the blog and become rich! RICH! But because we have morals (sigh, I guessssss) I will say that this top will be a dream with some shorts.

I honestly think it may be a Coaster Conglomerate Conspiracy that you cannot read the tag. I believe they intercepted the package and put this tag in to muddle and befuddle as Coasters often try to do.

Beautiful Flowers
Beautiful Flowers

My husband took this picture for me while waiting for me to change. He knows I usually include an extra picture.  There is no picture of the lollipop ring because my younger son opened the package for me and claimed it for himself.

Verdict: I am happy with my purchase. I feel that Harper did a great job with the limited information provide. Most items are ones that I would buy for myself. I like the variety that she sent. I plan to order another box next month.

Subscriptionista: I think Relish strives for personalized service which is something that usually costs a lot more. I would like to see them have some more standard questions on the site, or a saved profile. This would help with some headache for those who are used to other clothing subscriptions. I think the value is totally there and I like that it is a complete surprise as to what you will find when you open the box. All said and done I think she really did a great sticking to what you wanted and I personally really liked the items. Now I want a box too!!!

What do you think of the Relish Mystery Box? Did you order a box? Share below and anything else on you mind?

Great review! I may have to give this sub a try. I like almost everything you got (my only quibble is the first shirt because I’m not a big fan of major floral patterns but I like the last shirt so maybe I’m just confused). I definitely think that the value is there.

I also think that you should rock that blue sweater with a red bra! I think it sounds great!

CeciliaA – Thank you for commenting! I’ve seen prints similar to the last shirt on Golden Tote reviews. People love them! Let us know if you try the box.

2,000% love your reviews. They are extremely funny and also lighthearted and sweet! I think you look great in your pictures and the first floral shirt is my favorite and looks amazing on you. The sleeveless drape top with the suit jacket is fabulous. I wear boring black suits all the time and this inspired me to try to add more color.

Also, I laughed out loud about informing people about the “undies being the color of their eyes”. SO FUNNY.

Thank you for your kind words! We are both so excited to have people come here and join in on the fun!!! I also feel like you are one of us if you laughed at the creepy underwear joke. I know I can’t wait to actually do it! 😉

Rose, thank you for commenting! I like a pop of color with suits. I’m glad I don’t have to wear suits anymore. I may try out that joke 🙂

i love the last shirt I think the tag says Silvergate? What a nice selection! The only reason Im on the fence about ordering is the price point and its all a mystery. I like Goldentote since you can pick items you want, also the facebook swap page is great for selling or trading items you didn’t like so much. However this review really has me considering ordering.

    • August 9, 2015 at 11:29 am

Laura B,, thank you for commenting! I added a closeup of the label. Is that Silvergate? I’ve looked at it so many times that I can no longer read it right.

I’m curious to see how the Relish community grows. It seems that Relish and Golden Tote targets the same market segment. I know Relish has a swapping page somewhere, but I don’t know much about it. From what i read,, the Golden Tote Facebook swap page is part of the Golden Tote experience.

    • August 9, 2015 at 11:37 am

Thank you, Miss Lindsay Leigh and Subscriptionista! I forget people like boobies. They are not the in thing around here.

MissLindseyLeigh – Watching the HaperValleyPTA clip on your Birchbo review made me smile. I don’t exactly fit in around here.

I’m glad you reviewed this box. I’m so tempted to get it! The first floral shirt was my favorite, and I’m not usually a fan of floral prints (or prints in general for that matter.) Super cute though! Nice post!

    • August 14, 2015 at 7:12 pm

Deb, Thank you for commenting. I thought Harper did a great job on such little information. I plan to order another box in a few weeks.

My favorite is the Love Stitch top! I just received a box also, and I got the same Cable and Gauge top in green. I think it’s a great basic that maybe doesn’t photograph well, but will end up getting worn more than any of the other items. Everyone who has gotten that Le Lis top has raved about it! I think your pictures depicted it well. Kudos for you for modeling, I have also gained some weight in the last year because I was working full time and going to grad school full time. It’s not the size on the tag that matters, it’s how you feel in the clothes!

    • August 14, 2015 at 7:17 pm

Sarah, thank you for commenting. The clothes do make me feel great! Thank you for the compliment on the pictures Thank you for understanding about the weight 🙂 You have a crazy schedule.

What is your favorite item from your box?.

Glad you had good luck! Others be warned! This company is deceptive and has poor business practices. Harper/Amy has clients waiting since September 2015 for boxes – that’s 5 months! There is no reason or excuse for this. From personal experience, the box is not personalized or curated at all. My box was literally tossed together. This is quite frustrating after spending the time to give very specific style details and create a pinterest board. Furthermore, you are not getting extra value. I bought a $199 box and priced everything out after getting them, and the total did not come to $200.

She says that she only has 10% returns. This is because it takes forever (like over a month) to get refunded money. It’s easier to just keep it and then sell or trade with others. If you join her FB page, Relish Clothing Trading group, take it with a grain of salt. ANY and ALL negative reviews are deleted and then those people are removed and blocked from the page. Buyer BEWARE!

    • February 8, 2016 at 10:29 am

Sucks you didn’t have a good box. Did you get the refund you were promised?

I bought a tote a few months ago and it took about 4’weeks to get it. I didn’t personally like the items and I returned it. I got my money back in my account in two weeks. I didn’t have time to review that tote but felt my personal style was different then their brand. I didn’t total up any of the values because I personally only judge values to be if I am going to wear it or not.

I belong to the relish trading group but I don’t really go on very much due to time constraints. I never made a Pinterest. I just don’t have the time for that either personally and if I went to that amount of trouble then I might as well just go out and buy the clothing. So I can see if it is frustrating for you if you made one! I’d be super sad if it wasn’t looked at.

When you spoke to Harper about it did she offer to try again or work with you?

“Harper” Amy, has shut down her business! She got called out on being a scam artist! Search Harper Noel Photography on Google! That’s just one of 3 of her photography scams! Relish was also a scam! She’s scammed thousands of people out of tens of thousands of dollars!!! Do NOT buy from her! None of us in the Relish Trading group are getting refunds for boxes that have been pending for months! She only wants your money. And she only continually sent boxes to bloggers for advertisement. The company is bankrupt. Do NOT believe her lies!!!! And DO NOT give her your money!! Many of us were also victims of credit card fraud directly after giving her our CC info! Do NOT fall into her trap!

        • February 18, 2016 at 1:17 pm

This is good info however her website is no longer taking orders so no one will be able to get scammed at this moment. Don’t worry! I am currently looking into the issue. If you have more info or insight please shoot me an email at subscriptionista@gmail.com and I will be sure to add it to the update I am working on, one I get the whole story.

We run this blog to be a place that gives both information, updates, and also a positive/silly space. I hope you return to read our other reviews, as we put a ton of hard work into them! We also like new people!!! 🙂

          Update to come.
