Beauty DNA Review – September 2015

Beauty DNA – the subscription I cannot seem to shake – offers the most customization of any beauty subscription you can possibly sign up for. I mean this in every sense of the word. When you sign up you will be given what can only be called a midterm exam full of questions about what you like, what you want, what you don’t want, and all the ingredients that you will accept and not accept.

I remember when I first came across this subscription. About halfway through the questions I KNEW this subscription would be better for Sub Bella. I am pretty easy going when it comes to ingredients and I am only now starting to understand how many weird things I have been slathering on my skin in the name of beauty.

I ended up getting a month or two of the subscription but decided to give the rest of my months over to Sub Bella because as I said before, she could actually make good use of such a subscription. Then my sister saw a sale on it, and signed me up as a surprise. So… I will give it go, and if I feel like it is not getting good use then poor Sub Bella will have to take it over yet again…

If customization is important to you, if you can’t just slap on whatever you are sent then you pretty much HAVE to try out this subscription. It is for you. It is impossible NOT to be.

Cost: $25 a month/free shipping

Hydroxatone – AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex: I am normally not very interested in prices but I decided to look this up. Beauty DNA says that this is $69.95, and the retail price does fall in line with that. Save for sites that may or may not be providing the product for much cheaper but you will likely get older product. For those of you who like nicer things, this subscription usually does deliver.

I am not a huge Hydroxatone fan mainly because of their commercials that seem to pop up around the holidays in such force that I have dreams of them. I had a chance to try their BB or CC cream (I forget) and it was pretty outstanding so I was pretty on the fence when I saw that this was in my box.

I can always use sunscreen! Pnut would also agree with that! I like the formula a lot. It is light and doesn’t make my dry skin feel like it is swimming. I will use this up until it is gone.

They must think I am VERY fair skinned if they think I am going to put sunscreen on in the PM…

Verdict: I am pretty easy to please when it comes to beauty products. I don’t really have overly sensitive skin and even with my rosacea trifecta I don’t normally have a problem with any product other than certain mascaras. I am looking forward to reading more reviews of this from Sub Bella, and Pnut. They have more complex skin and higher end tastes. However I am personally happy with the value and product I was sent!

I’ll be last! The sun starts setting around 6:15 here because of the treeline. No PM sunscreen usage here. Maybe you need Beauty DNA!

Yeah it is getting darker earlier. Which blows.

But it is sunscreen for am and pm!
This was my first BeautyDNA item and I wondered too whether night sunscreen would be needed.
        Sunscreen for vampires?
I have not seen the commercials now I will probably see them in multitudes during the holiday…

          LOL vampire sunscreen!

So, the commercials suck because they say stuff like “Call in the next 5 mins” and there is a countdown clock. Ummm I am pretty sure I could call any time and they would gladly take my money…

I got that same thing my first month (of 2 months) with Beauty DNA! I will also slather anything onto my face… I did like the product but not enough to purchase at full price.

Yeah I would NOT be buying it full price. It would have to be AMAZING for me to shell out so much money for a product!

I just finished up a 2-month sub I got on groupon or ruelala or some place like that. The first month they sent me a face cream that would have been pretty awesome, except for the fact that it had such a strong powdery-perfumy smell that it made my eyes sting for an hour after I put it on. Sad face 🙁 This month they sent a shampoo (I don’t remember the brand, but it wasn’t one I had heard of before) and an acne drying lotion that reminded me of the Mario Badescu pink lotion. Shampoo is always useful, but I’m kind of hooked on the smell of rosemary in my shower every morning, so I might end up gifting the shampoo. I was stoked about the drying lotion, until I saw that alcohol was the first ingredient. I ticked the “no alcohol” box in my preferences, so that was a bummer. I’ll probably try it anyway though, because it is also packed with sulfur and zinc, and since it is a spot treatment the alcohol hopefully won’t be too much of an issue.

I’ll let y’all know if my face melts off!

Hanahaha sarah! You better let us know either way! I see some people are getting dr Brandt products which I like (lots of you super natural gals done but I’m hooked) anyway I asked them if many beer the could put that brand in my box and they emailed back that they can’t promise but they DO have some of that brand so it COULD happen. Let’s hope so!

I am happy to report my face did not fall off. It burned with the fire of a thousand suns, but it is still attached.

I was hoping for some Drunk Elephant stuff, because I saw a bunch of people getting that, but alas, no luck. I never asked them about it, though, so maybe they will come through for you. Birchbox seems to think I want all the Dr. Brandt, but it really doesn’t do much for me. And the samples are so tiny.

Well I am glad you still have a face!
The samples are small… drunk elephant? Sounds like an awesome brand!!!

You are brave. I would be freaking out if my face felt like that. I’ve seen Drunk Elephant in sub boxes. People go crazy over their products
