Bulu Box Review – September 2015

Bulu Box is a health related subscription that has two options: Regular and Weight Loss. Cost Varies on subscription length however even at the month to month price it is only $10. You get points for reviewing the products (very similar set up to Birchbox) and it is easy to earn enough points for free items.

Items in your box can include just about anything. Healthier snacks, vitamins, or herbal remedies are just some of the items I have received in my Bulu Box. While not everything has been to my taste, I do really enjoy trying out different health products.

Cost: $10 a month and cheaper for longer subs. Click Here and Use code: MYSUB5 to get 50% off of your subscription!

Oh Bulu Box, you are so bright!

Vital 4U - Liquid Energy
Vital 4U – Liquid Energy

Vital 4U – Liquid Energy: Whenever we get energy things I am always afraid to take it. I wonder what the heck do all these ingredients really mean? Also what is wrong with society that I need something to get me jacked up for my day? The popularity of these products only tells me that Americans need more vacation time. I think we should also shorten the work week and just add hours on the other days. Anyway, I will put this in my car so that I can get a super amount of energy, or feel sick. It could go either way with one of these products.

It is coffee flavor which begs the question why not just have a cup of coffee?

Caveman Bars - Nutrition Bar (Dark Chocolate Cherry Nut)
Caveman Bars – Nutrition Bar (Dark Chocolate Cherry Nut)

Caveman Bars – Nutrition Bar (Dark Chocolate Cherry Nut): This is a small sample bite. Which is fine because most of the bars I get are so gross that I only take a tentative bite anyway. The idea behind these bars is that we should get back to the way we used to eat. There are people who are pretty passionate on this idea. I find it intriguing but science doesn’t fully support the theory. I would love to go out and hunt a cold beer but life just doesn’t work that way… yet.

Can you imagine Flamin’ Hot Cheetos in the wild?!? Majestic!

RAP - Protein Energy Gummies (grape)
RAP – Protein Energy Gummies (grape)

RAP – Protein Energy Gummies (grape): I love gummies. I used to eat the gummy vitamins with the omegas in it all the time.I get into gummy kicks and will take down a pack of Harbro like it was my job. Sadly it isn’t, I applied but those kids who run it didn’t think I would be a “good fit for the company culture.” Whatever that means… These gummies pack 10g of protein and are 90 calories, so not bad!

I bet I could make some really interesting Vodka gummies with these!

Manitoba Harvest - Hemp Pro 70 (vanilla)
Manitoba Harvest – Hemp Pro 70 (vanilla)

Manitoba Harvest – Hemp Pro 70 (vanilla): I really need to get with the shake trend. I am excited about this because it might be a good healthy snack I get into. I thnk it is pretty cool you can pop this into yogurt because that is something easy for me to do. It can also be used in baking but I am not sure how that works.

One of these days they will have full meal shakes that taste like gourmet dinners!

Nutrigold - Omega 3 Gold Vitamins:
Nutrigold – Omega 3 Gold Vitamins:

Nutrigold – Omega 3 Gold Vitamins: I am impressed that they send a whole bottle. The last time they did this it was close to the expiration date. This time is no different with it expiring 1/16. I will finish these before then thankfully. I need more omegas in my life!

If the omegas make me any smarter I might be able to understand what all the ingredients in beauty products do!

Verdict: Bulu Box might not be your most favorite box in the world to get but I am always surprised at the value (especially with the review points) and the fun I have trying different things I would never in a million years try otherwise.

Protein gummies. Protein GUMMIES. Why has the world not informed me of this prior? Off to hunt these down, cavewoman style.

I always read the Bulu reviews with great interest. My customers follow different eating styles such as Paleo and Weston Price. There’s no legal standard for “pharmaceutical grade fish oil”. It’s not a term the FDA recognizes. There could be an “industry standard”. The question beckons who is watching the hen house? That’s my public service announcement for the day.

    My kids love jelly bellys!

We usually buy this brand though I personally don’t take a fish oil. This one has been good for not giving you the fish burps which I should imagine is hellish!

Nothing wrong with the brand:) It rates high as a good fish oil!

Sub Bella, correct me if I am wrong, but supplements are not regulated by the FDA, so any claims made or ingredients listed, especially if they are puffing the ingredients, like calling them pharmaceutical grade, should be viewed critically (and perhaps even doubtfully).

      • October 5, 2015 at 11:44 am

That is correct. Caution should be exercised because it is unregulated by the FDA. The pharmaceutical grade statement jumped at me because I spent a lot of time studying fish oil before selecting one to use as recommended by my eye doctor for my eye disease.

I also take a supplement for my inflammation problems. I’m not anti-supplement. I do think people need to be aware of statements that may inspire trust and have no legal meaning or standard behind it.

The supplement industry is the great wild west. I follow all types of rules and regulations to sell safe food to consumers. The supplement industry is not as regulated.

I actually buy that caveman bar on a regular basis. I think they’re pretty good, but I’m also not very picky.
