Elizabeth and Clark Review – Fall 2015

Elizabeth and Clark asks the question, “Why are you paying $100 for that designer blouse?” Don’t you worry L & C, I totally am not going to pay $100 for any shirt unless it has a hand embroidered portrait of my cat eating kibble from the hoof of an ancient buffalo. Oddly, designers never return my calls, so I wait for the day.

Every season you can pick 1 shirt for $30, 2 for $25 each, and 3 for $20 each. They allow you to choose from their collection and you can cancel anytime. They also allow you to order older styles once you join, but you have to email them for that.

I was super impressed with my Summer order and so decided that I would take the plunge for Fall. Especially since I now know how well these shirts hold up over time and how much they get worn!

No guessing, shirts inside!

The fun is that by the time you receive the shirts (you order a season ahead) you sort of forget what you picked out!

The Fall Collection is here, however you can sometimes order shirts from past collections. I like that they include how to care for the item. usually their shirts are very easy to just throw in the wash. I love that!

The Whitney
The Whitney

The Whitney: This is made of sweatshirt material and so comfortable! I think I can pull this off at work pretty easy because the finish of it does not look like it is a sweatshirt. When it is cold enough to wear something like this I tend to look super frumpy due to my aversion of being chilly. This will allow me to beat out the cold while looking put together!

I sort of want to get a whole business suit made out of this material and go work out in it. My gym bag will be a briefcase and I will keep exclaiming “It’s business time!” when I start a new supersize…

The Hutton
The Hutton

The Hutton: The color is a deeper blue then in the photo. It is the perfect tee to go to Trader Joe’s in. It is comfortable so you can slow the line with ease by chit chatting with the cashier about how absolutely delicious organic coconut Greek yogurt is. You will look so classic and put together when you hem and haw over whether you should get that little fair trade chocolate bar at the register or not… should you? Yes, no? Yes.

Is it bad whenever I check out the checker always asks me if I am “having a party” and I am not?

The Taylor
The Taylor

The Taylor: I am terrible because I got this same shirt last time but it is the best and I had to have another so that I could rotate easier. You can find my review of it by clicking here. Safe to say Elizabeth and Clark thought of EVERYTHING when they made this shirt and you won’t find yourself flashing your bra to the intern as you bend over to write a note to put on your food so no one eats it.

You aren’t giving out free goodies… not in the refrigerator or anywhere else!

Verdict: I love Elizabeth and Clark because the quality really is worth more than the price. The selections are always appropriate for work and dressing nice for those times my long time blogging body actually gets out into the world. The materials are always very soft and quality. If you have any need for classic tops you should take a look. They now have the Winter shirts up!

So wish they had plus sizes – I could really use some nice basics in my wardrobe. I want my very own Liz Lemon! Waaaaahhhhh!

I swear I heard somewhere they would start doing plus sizes but maybe I made it up. I’ll keep an eye out though.

Weirdly even with a Liz lemon in my closet I managed to show up to work with a half zipped dress. The person who had to point out? My boss…

I have the same desire! They did say they would start doing plus sizes- And from the INTERWEBZ, it appears they started a kick starter for it, but it didn’t get funded. If they would do another kickstarter, I will send them ALL OF MY MONEY. I want these shirts real bad.

I know they’ve talked about it, and they had plus sizes as one of their (unmet) stretch goals on their Kickstarter, but I haven’t heard any more. Sigh.

They would make bank if they got more sizing options! I wish I had the smarts to start something like this for plus size ladies. My mom is forever searching for clothing that is nice but not too spendy.

Adorable shirts and review, I see you looking fab at Trader Joes. I think they need to name a shirt after you, Subsista.

Hahah thanks Kelly! Weirdly, they haven’t offered yet. You can pay to get a shirt named after you but I don’t have that kind of money. My shirt would have cat head buttons lol

I would purchase a shirt with cat head buttons. Just please make it for fat chicks too. 😉

Shush not fat, just more lap for the cat! 😉 I wouldn’t leave anyone hanging for my business shirts!

The blue tee is cute. What happened to the kickstarter project?

I just checked – it raised tons of money for the unstainable white shirt, and met the goals for other colors, but didn’t meet the stretch goal for plus sizes. 🙁 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1133048795/the-unstainabletm-white-shirt/description

I’m hoping they make enough $ when they put that shirt out to then fun more sizes. I should have ordered from the campaign but at the time $ was much tighter…

Aaaaaahhhhh… I do not like clothes subscriptions but after reading this I NEEEEEED the Taylor. *sighs*

Today my Relish box is arriving! But yeah, E&C is always a good bet. The clothing is soft and I only wish the Taylor had more colors and sizes!

Elizabeth and Clarke’s regular sizes run REALLY large. The size 8 Liz Lemon is closer to a 12 to 14. It’s huge and E & C won’t exchange it for me because I don’t have the plastic bag it came it. I have the box and the paperwork they sent and they don’t dispute I bought it from them, but they won’t exchange it.
I also bought the sleeveless white shirt in size 10 and it’s about a 12 to 14, as well.
Now I’m stuck with 2 shirts that don’t fit and no options. A fine thank you for someone who helped them get launched by buying into their kickstarter campaign.
Also, I agree with reviewers who say the material is thin. You can see through both shirts.
    I would not buy from E & C again.

Hi Diane! They have been super awesome with me and I am shocked and super sad that they wouldn’t take back the shirts that are too large for you! Do they have a number you can call or was this all by email?
I once had a shirt that had an imperfection and they send me a replacement right away and told me to donate or do whatever I wanted with the imperfect one. So I am shocked that they wouldn’t take a return over a little bag!

Seriously try them again. I am so sad a stupid bag got in the way of you getting your money back!!!

I emailed numerous times and finally today I called and this is the response. They will not do anything to help me:

        Hi Diane,

Thanks for your call! I am very sorry for the inconvenience, but as mentioned in our previous emails, we are unable to provide an exchange without the plastic bags the items arrived in. This is our policy due to reselling purposes. I am more than happy to help you with anything else, however, unfortunately, there is nothing I can do regarding this particular exchange. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

        Best,
        Jaime

        Hi Diane,

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but unfortunately, reselling that item without the SKU would be impossible – which is why we are unable to provide an exchange without the complete original packaging. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

        Best,
        Jaime

Very strict! I just looked at their FAQ and it is listed but one would not automatically think to save the bags they came in (for those who don’t know they are clear thin plastic bags that each shirt comes in. The bag usually has a label and a code.

Thank you so much Diane, I will make sure in my reviews of E&L to remind anyone who is going to order that they must save the bags for any returns. Hopefully that will help people in the future and it sucks that they are so rigid on this detail.

I am just shocked they were so nice about sending me another shirt, but are so weird about packaging. They don’t know who I am or that I review them, so it must be that they just have really hard lines about returns.

Thank you for helping spread the word. I have suggested to E&C that they include specific wording about saving the plastic bags, because I agree with you it’s not instinctive to save them. They do say “original packaging” but I had no idea they would mean the torn plastic bag.
They are a new company and one would think they would want to work hard to retain customers, but apparantly not.
