SB’s Beauty DNA Review – October 2015

Disclosure: Subscriptionista bought a voucher for Beauty DNA. She with no allergies made an executive decision that she with allergies would benefit more from Beauty DNA. There are no affiliate links.

Beauty DNA was one of the first subscription boxes that I tried in the late spring of 2014.  I moved on to trying other beauty subscriptions, but Beauty DNA holds a special spot in my subscription box heart. I’m happy to try them again. There is a comprehensive survey that you fill out that helps them curate your selection.

Subscription: Beauty DNA

Cost: $25.00/month

What to Expect: A curated beauty product based on your profile. Sometimes a bonus product is included.

Note: Skincare tends to have the highest value. Not all months have a high value.

Three items!
Three items!

I live in a hilly area. I could not get the Glytone to sit right. I received three items in my October box that arrived on Friday.

Barbour Feet Smoothing Balm
Barbour Feet Smoothing Balm

I found my BeautyDNA paperwork. I laughed when I opened my box and saw the foot balm. They must know about my succulent feet.

Am I the only puzzled that the foot balm suits my fair complexion?

Babor Feet Smoothing Balm
Babor Feet Smoothing Balm

Babor Shaping for Body Feet Smoothing Balm:  The made-in-Germany foot balm has a barely there scent. The cream is described as being thick. I did not find it to be thicker than a hand cream.

Even BeautyDNA knows about my succulent feet!

A Bonus Match!
A Bonus Match!

I received a bonus match with a skin report.

Kiehl's Ultra facial Cleanser
Kiehl’s Ultra facial Cleanser

I’ve seen Kiehl’s in stores although I never tried it because I did not want to waste the money if it did not work for me.

Looks to be a good match!

The bolded words are keywords that matched my profile.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser: The made-in-the-USA cleanser is a limited edition according to the Nordstrom’s website. I am unsure if I will use it because it has lemon extract in it. Citrus juices worsen rosacea.  BeautyDNA describes the cleanser as a cream. Nordstrom describes it as a foam. It has a sticky gel-like texture to me.

Rosacea has outsmarted the BeautyDNA system. My apologies to Beauty DNA if there was a place to exclude lemon, and I missed it.

Glytone Gel wash
Glytone Gel wash

Glytone Mild Gel Wash: I linked to the official website that shows it can be purchased at a certified physician or the Dermstore. What is a certified physician? Why is it offered at the Derm Store if it is sold by certified physicians? The only reason I came up with is that it is used to prep the skin for Glytone Acid Chemical Peels. The cleanser received a lot of love on DermStore, so I decided to take a closer look at it. It has yeast extract in it. I have no idea how my skin will react to the formula. I will place it in my to-try area to rotate in on a good facial day.

I thought we were to avoid yeast, not add it to our face?

Verdict: It was fun to try BeautyDNA again. I enjoyed being introduced to new products and learning about them. I appreciate that they included two bonus items to add more value to the box.

FYI Kiehls is very generous with foil samples. I was on a Kiehls kick a few years back. My favorite item was discontinued. Kiehls is a Lancôme brand you can also find some products at a discount in their outlet stores.

Yes I thought that noting your fair skin too! You have the most succulent feet of the three of us for sure!

Thank you! It’s a brand that I am curious about.

I got my first beautyDNA! It is Epicuren Alpha Lipoic Omega Facial serum. I have everything in body care and haircare checked as no, because really I don’t need it. So I’m not entirely sure if I’ll just keep getting face stuff or if they’ll email me and be like “dude, change your profile that’s not how it works”. And cleansers are a no for me because I already have a backlog of 3 low-pH ones. Just tell them to send me allllll the serums and acne products and I’ll be a happy lady hahaha.

Also, I think I’m one of the last people left who doesn’t care about parabens.

I don’t care about parabens either! Bring ‘me on! I’ll also take all the non-vegan, non-paleo food!

So I have cracked heels too, but a medium skin-tone. I wonder if the foot cream would work for me?

I saw this shortly after you posted but I of a medium complexion could not think of anything witty to say. It has been a few hours and I am still wittyless.

On the other hand (which is more succulent than my foot), please pass the ribeye, with a side of partially hydrogenated potatoes my way. And some Bliss scrub with parabens to scrub off those oils off ma face!

            😉

I almost got caught up in the paraben-free hype train, and then I read Paula’s Choice’s writeup on the science behind it all and was very embarrassed. No actual link to cancer and 10,000 times less estrogenic than things I regularly used like soy and ginseng?! Found naturally in raspberries?!

I have never been so annoyed at mass marketing for almost duping me.
