GlobeIn Subscription Review – December 2015

Disclosure: I bought this box with my own money, post contains affiliate links

GlobeIn is a subscription that seeks to bring the world to you every month in the form of carefully curated artisanal goods from throughout the world. They take the time to make sure items are fairly traded and therefore support artists and their work. This theme is really important to me as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer I saw first hand while serving how much it can mean to an artist, family, and whole community to be fairly paid for their hard work. It can mean a drastically better life!

GlobeIn has two boxes:

Artisan Box: $35 a month, $33 per month with a 3 month subscription, and $30 a month with a 6 month subscription. Use coupon codes WELCOME to save 25% off of your first box with a 3 month subscription!!!

Benefit Basket: A smaller version of the Artisan Box that has one item nestled a basket: $19.99 a month or $56.95 every 3 months. Use coupon code TRYBENEFIT to save $7 off of a 3 month subscription!!!

What is this? A box?!? Yes!

Equal Exchange Chocolates – Caramel Crunch and Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Bar: I am so excited to get a chocolate bar. I think the main reason is that I never buy them for myself. If I am given one, happen to run across one being offered, or someone sees me eyeing their candy with puppy dog eyes I will totally eat it. I just try not to get in the habit of buying myself too many sweets because I drive a lot and will mindlessly eat them without even tasting them. So score, the chocolate found me!

This company sources fair trade chocolate and sources organic cocoa from small farmers. I can really get behind this! When I was in Western Samoa I saw how cocoa was grown everyday in my village. We would pick the beans (they have this slick skin on them), dry them in the sun, and then roast them. After that you grind it up, add it to water, and put in a HUGE amount of sugar… all this makes a common breakfast treat or Cocoa Samoa. Delish!

I have dreams of being a cocoa farmer and building my whole farm out of chocolate…

Dsenyo – Cards: In person the vibrant color is really apparent. I am always happy to get cards that I can then use to write little notes that both delight and sometimes weird out the recipient. The cards themselves almost feel like cloth, probably because they are made from up-cycled cloth. Really cool. I love how the envelopes match so well and it gives the whole thing a unique look!

I am thinking of writing my cat a thank you note for the many nights of feet warming she has given me… Little does she know she was also warming my heart!

Della – Table Runner: Made in Ghana this is an unique item for those who probably don’t eat hunched over their coffee table watching 90 Day Finance while yelling “Run! Run!” periodically at the show. I am going to use this as a covering for the top of a self I have, because I don’t want to wait for the day I ever have my life together enough to use it for its intended purpose.

I can see people being REALLY anxious putting this out around sloppy family members… “Uncle Clem! It isn’t a napkin, that’s a table runner!”

Tribe Alive – Tassel Necklace: I really dig this necklace. It has tassels which speak to my inner cat, and the colors rock my world! It is simple but makes a statement. It actually got me thinking about things that are easily done but make an impact on an observer… Things like not wearing shoes in public restrooms. Which is weird but there you go.

Tribe Alive is a social enterprise that empowers women through skill training that living in extreme poverty. They are a part of a movement which uses style for a good purpose. There tagline is “Hope is Our Message. Fashion is Our Medium” and that makes this cute necklace all the more stylish!

I am going to rock this during the holidays and beyond. I look forward to being asked about it so that I have something to talk about. It is far more interesting then say, the cardigan I bought at target for 30% off.

Basket: Every month you will usually get a basket! I love these and have been storing all my various sundries in them. It makes my place look a lot more neater and it has been fun collecting them!

Verdict: Celebrate! This month was great, and I found that each item had celebrating in mind. I know me and that chocolate bar are going to have a private celebrations pretty soon… pretty soon indeed! I like the mix of items from GlobeIn and while I will be taking a break from this subscription due to budget (need to circle subs in and out of the rotation while figuring out ways to avoid the subject of how much I actually spend on boxes), but I am looking forward to reuniting once again one day soon!

Chocolate indeed! Try cocoa nibs while you’re driving. They’re crunchy which is nice for helping to stay awake.

I should think so! I got some from a Whole Foods type place that has reasonable prices. I love the bulk bins. 8 gummi bears? Yes, please. 19 peanut butter malt balls and three chocolate cordials? Alright. Maybe even 2 caramels for the road.

Hawaii is a great place to start your chocolate farm! I try to avoid how much I spend on boxes but my husband loves to remind me……

I would totally grow Samoan chocolate in Hawaii and then sell chocolate shaped pineapples for export. Everyone would remark and how authentic it was!

Mmmmm more chocolate! Glad they went back to the regular baskets with a lid although a square basket would a lid would be good as well. My baskets like to be discreet.

I checked my tracking. When did they start shipping by DHL? My box is scheduled to arrive on 12/26.

I dunno! I did not even notice how it was shipped. I just sorta get this heavy feeling when I get home and know there are boxes waiting for me. I think front desk people think I am some sort of crazy who gets everything mailed to me. They are right.
