RawSpiceBar Subscription Box Review – December 2015

Disclosure: RawSpiceBar kindly sent me the December package for review. All opinions are my own. No compensation was received. There are affiliate links in this post.

Subscription: RawSpiceBar

Cost: $6.00/monthly

What to Expect: Three freshly ground, exotic and global flavors from around the world.

RawSpiceBar spices are freshly blended only a few days before shipping out. Each spice blend provides enough spices for a dish serving 8-12.  The blends are curated by chefs or from old family recipes. They also provide recipes that almost always have an option for vegans, carnivores, and vegetarians. Additional recipes can be found on the RawSpiceBar blog.

I was a little nervous about what will be arriving in the mail. I am happy to see that the theme is a Scandinavian Holiday Meal. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate December!

Gravlax Spice: I will be making the recipe at the beginning of January. The scent is mostly peppery with a little bit of citrus. I think of fish when I smell it.

Winter Herb Blend: I am familiar with the spices in this mix. The blend is similar to the herbs I use when making a roasted chicken. The spices had a strong, fresh scent to them. The picture shows the different spices in the mix. They look beautiful. The family loves Potato Au Gratin. I will use the spices to make the Norwegian version.

Gingerbread Spices: Yummy! It smells like gingerbread. I can see the richness of the spices. Note the different spices in the mix. I will be making the cookies the last week of December. I am going to try a couple in the oven first to see how they bake. Burnt cookies do not smell good.

Verdict: I am impressed. I can’t believe it only cost $6.00 for three spice blends and recipes. The spice blends look vibrant and smell fresh. It’s a fun way to spice up your food life.

I got my mom 6+1 months of this subscription, and this is her last extra month. She really liked it, but my dad was suspicious of spices in the mail. We grew up with a place that sold bulk spices and teas, so he prefers to go there and get his own stuff. But, my mom never had any complaints =D

I wonder if my husband would be interested in this – he’s the chef in my family.

Your spice photos look beautiful! Let us know how everything turns out.
