BOOM!box Subscription Box Review – February 2016

Subscription: EC BOOM!Box

Cost: $30/month + tax and ships bimonthly [paying for multiple boxes reduces cost up to $5 for a year]. With tax and shipping mine came out to $39.70.

What to Expect: “Nerd Manicures, Makeup & MOAR! Delivered to You Bi-Monthly!”

boombox

This is the second box from BOOM!box. It is a bimonthly box with geekery, nerdery, makeup, and glitter!

boombox bella

Bella came to checkout my box, but then demanded I give her ice cream.

Sooo rude not even using a spoon…

boombox info card

Theme: Most Ardently

Nicely laid out card describing the items and where they came from. I love detailed cards like this! Plus, there’s a makeup tutorial.

I will be studying this later…

boombox nailwraps

Gothique Lace Nailwraps and [Mystery!] Borderlands Nailwraps: $10 and $12. The skull wraps are designed by Sam Skyler. They are glow-in-the-dark and see through.

Shhh! I traded these from some Bombas. <3 Style 4 style.

boombox eyeshadows

Cosmetic Glitter in Sensibility and Everything Shadow in Tea & Crumpets: $7.50 each.

These are pretty, but I think Pnut’s fairy door might be getting some more glitter!

boombox raise the dead tea

Raise the Dead Tea from The Geeky Hostess: $10. “Ingredients: Pu-Erh black tea, Bai Mu Dan white tea, cranberry, marigold, natural red sparkling sugar (sugar, E-163, Carnauba wax).

YUM! I love this. My mom just sent me a teapot that I was gifted and had to leave in SD when I moved to the west coast. So, now I have a pretty teapot to brew all my teas with!

Definitely a nom!

boombox scones and tea

On Valentine’s day I made heart shaped scones and served it with my lovely new tea!

boombox notepad

Attic Journals with Jane Austen Playing Cards: $8.

This is cute, but in case you didn’t see my boygirlparty post, I have A LOT of notepads now!!

boombox optimystical studio necklace

Moss and Pebble Pendant and Fountain Pen Tip Pendant from Optimystical Studios: The terrariums sell between $9-20 for similar, but the fountain pen I found 5 for $3 on Etsy [though this one includes a chain].

I like that they included a chain this time. This is really neat, but not something I would really wear. Though, I did just learn how to use a fountain pen!

boombox sam skyler bookmark

Sam Skyler Bookmark: This is colorable! Click to see an Instagrammer’s finished bookmark.

boombox sam skyler art zombie ppz

Sam Skyler PPZ Artwork: Made with Espionage Cosmetics eyeshadow! If you click the link you can see it being made. These are printed on some sort of canvas paper and they are individually numbered.

I hate zombies. This is really cool but also grosses me out.

Also, to see the artwork reviewed in December get made click here! I didn’t realize the piece was based off of a Mad Max character.

I thought it was a badass version of me =\ Haha, I’ll keep pretending it’s me…

boombox happiness button kiru

Kiru Button: $1.50. “Know your own happiness.”

Apparently a Jane Austen quote.

boombox ppz book movie

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies from Quirkbook: $14.95.

I bought this book like six years ago and realized A. I hate Austen and B. I hate zombies. Soooo… I donated this book [actually an angsty twentysomething stole it from my garage sale]. This is going to Subista! It is neat that there are movie pictures, but I have no interest in seeing the movie.

I was a bad English major / zombie killer.

boomboxsubscribe

Verdict: Without knowing some of the values [for the pendants and the art], the minimum of this box is $85! That’s pretty awesome for a $40 box, plus subscribers get 30% off when they order Espionage Cosmetics items from this box.

BUT I’m torn…

On the one hand, the only thing I’m keeping is the tea and $40 is very expensive for tasty tea. The rest will be gifted, but still. I’m going to give this one more try, but I’m a little disappointed that they stuck with some of the same shops from their first box [Kiru, Sam Skyler, and Optimystical Studios]. There are SOOO many nerdy shops out there, and I really hope to see them branch out. I recently stumbled across a steampunk shop and it had some way cool nerdy boutique stuff!

On the other hand, this box has a lot of value and a lot of cool stuff in it [if you’re into zombies and are an Austenite]. I think the variety of items in this box was really neat, and both times I was amazed how many items I pulled out!

Btw: if you live near Tacoma, WA they’re doing a store reopening this Saturday, March 5th.

Hello! You need to share your scone recipe please! Very cute I never thought of using a (cookie cutter) to make them heart shaped!

It’s a mix and after making a scone circle and cutting triangles I just indented the short side to make a heart. Easy peasy.

That’s nifty I need to do that next time! I love scones and only use mixes too lol! I like Garveys (got it via Amazon) and I think Sticky Fingers Brand used to get it on Amazon but they raised the prices so whenever I am at CostPlus Market I snap some up.

Hey I saw a similar igloo project but using ice cream cones. Thought of you.

Thanks for the glitter fairies like an assortment 😉

What mix do you use? Is it add water only? With the Garveys its add water then add savory or sweet tidbets. Its not as dry as most scones.

The fair scones are each different. I think the plan is add water, and the blueberry you add cream and some other items to, and I haven’t looked at the orange cranberry one yet. It was a threesome pack from Costco for $2!!! I had to look at the price multiple times, and even the cashier was like, “holy hot buttered scones, Batman!”

          • March 4, 2016 at 6:17 am

Ohhh I will have to see and hope this is at my Costco. Where was the package located (so I can stalk more efficiently adding less unintended noms in the cart as I forage).

I want scones so bad now. I want them to go with some red wine. I also want to eat them by myself in my slippers and jammies that have cat ears.
