Popsugar Must Have Special Edition Review: Resort Box – March 2016

Popsugar’s regular subscription is one of my most favorites to get each month! They also do Special Edition boxes which are a one time deal. Often about $100 to $150, these boxes usually have a bit more luxury and fit a theme. It does feel that they are doing more and more “Special Editions” then they used to do… making them a wee bit less “special.”

The Resort Box is one of the editions that they have put out each year. I am surprised I even got sucked into buying this years because I actually have never been blown away by the past ones. I think a big part of the allure for me is because I live in San Diego and often all the boxes with cold weather stuff isn’t as useful to me. It is pretty warm here year round and I have hardly had an occasion to wear a scarf let alone a cashmere headband!

Also they emailed subscribers to let them get early access to pre order the box. I swear that Popsugar has some very crafty marketing people that know how to work over my mind. I love ’em for it…

Cost: $100

(Just had a funny thought. Pnut would say it cost  “100 clams.” It makes me giggle for some reason)

Special Edition boxes are always pretty much the same in quality and coloring. I like that they are good enough to reuse. I wonder what I will put in this one… perhaps my ever growing collection of cat hair? Or maybe I will use it as a place to hide a box of wine?

Enjoy! (For $100 I better…)

Looks as if they wrapped each item which makes a fun box to open.

Tai – Evil Eyes Pom-Pom Bracelet: I am all about this bracelet! Perfect for the summer, this bracelet has a surprising weight to it from the stone beads. The charms are all something meaningful to me personally. I even like the pom-poms, even if every other blogger is going to cut them off. They add a sort of eclectic Indian feel that says “I may spend my summers on the Redneck Rivera or I might spend them in exotic locals…” This really could be that lucky bracelet you wear when you meet The One, or adopt the perfect cat.

Can my story about “The One” be about the time I went to Costco and was able to actually try a chocolate sample before everyone else crowded me out?

MAKE Beauty – Custom Finish Effect (Matte/Dew): This isn’t really supposed to be about color payoff so much as it is a finishing product. You basically rub your paw on the product and apply to that beautiful face that lights up the world when it smiles. The pink side is for a dewy look and the peach is for a matte finish. It would be useful on a hot day, as well as a hot night! *elbows you knowingly*

If I mix the peace and pink will they just cancel each other out or will it open a black hole?

Indie Lee – Soin Exfoliant Coco Agrumes/Coconut Citrus Body Scrub: I am all about scrubs at all times of years! Especially fancy nice ones that don’t have bad things in them. I like this product and the fact that it provides moisture without being too fragrant. I think we should all be able to shower with sugar!

Don’t worry at a RV of $38 per jar I won’t be eating this…

Kara’s Cupcakes – Artisan Handmade Toasted Coconut Marshmallows: Made in San Francisco, one would think these were made on some island in the South Pacific. I can imagine Kara (I don’t know her so this is again all in my mind which is kinda where I keep most things) out in a hut as the sun rises over the coconut trees… But no, she is in the cold cold city likely making these to help us all reach that tropical paradise with our taste buds.

If this gets the label “Artisan Handmade” can this blog be called “Artisan Hand-typed?”

Mela Artisans – Congo Indigo Photo Frame: The frame is totally pretty and would be perfect to show off that vacation snap! I see myself tucking a picture in, and putting the frame where people could always see it. I would refer to the trip so often (obviously making each story more grandiose about the last) until people started to ask me NOT to talk about it anymore.

“Substa, your trip to Myrtle Beach to visit that trailer park from the show was NOT that great, and frankly we are tired of you bringing up the special way it feels when swimming in an above ground pool as the littered cigarette butts catch light as the it reaches high noon”

Rifle Paper Co. – Passport Pocket Notebooks Set: These are darling little notebooks that I bet I will stick in a drawer and never use because they are cute, and they don’t have lines. People go crazy for this company and I can see why. The art is simple but reminds me of a 1950’s type of style. The days when people would go into travel agents with posters on the wall of far of exotic places. I would collect those type of travel posters if I had more wall space!

I wonder if travel agents will ever make a comeback…

Goorin Bros. Fatima Hat: I saw the spoilers before I got the box and was interested in the hat. I am what many would call a “hat person.” I was worried that it would end up making me look like a Indiana Jones on a beach-side vacation. It fits well and I actually think I can make it work!

Do you think Indiana Jones brings his whip to the pool?

Bonus: Free year of DuJour Magazine: This mag is supposed to show up 4 times a year. It looks to me like some sort of sleek marketing piece frankly. Like oh sign up for this catalog we are calling a magazine to push our idea of what you should want, and we will most definitely say you need. We will make you live a profligate life.

I would jump at the chance to write for it lol

Verdict: Popsugar’s Special Editions elicit a lot of emotion in those who buy it. There have been very popular items and also items that are not. While objectively I didn’t see myself spending $100 for these items at the store, I am wavering on that thought. I love the hat, frame, scrub, and bracelet. The other items I like very much and feel are a bonus to make me not regret this purchase. I was a bit put off by the spoilers however I was happy to see them once in my hands. I will make note that some of the retail values on items are hilarious. Overall for me and my tastes I did like it.

Hey girl! Sorry it took me so long to comment I am what many call… moody right now. Maybe I have not had a good enough supply of cat huff? 😉 Did you get the box? the frame is super pretty in person. It is actually too nice for the likes of me I think. The notebooks are cute… I just find it hard to write in things that are cute
