Boxwalla Food Subscription Box Review-April 2016

Disclosure: This box was sent to me for my honest review. If you are thinking to yourself, lucky duck, yes I agree….this box is delicious!

Before we begin this review, I have a picture from the Boxwalla website:

BW

Yes, it says Be always drunken! Haha! Well under this quote they explain that in their choosing of box items they desire to send you stuff they think you MUST experience. As if it would be a shame that you were walking this earth never having tasted, seen, read or tried the things they send in their boxes.

I have got to admit, I think they are on to something……

Although none of the boxes have contained any alcohol to date…..

Here is the box deal-io:
Ships: Bi-Monthly with free US shipping
Categories: Books, Beauty, Food and Film (These are seperate boxes)
Cost: $49.95 per box

First off, we have to discuss the box. I will mention this quote from their Instagram in any review of their boxes that I do because I find it pretty spectacular!

“Did you know our boxes are hand crafted from tree-free paper? A small company in India makes the paper for us, from cotton scraps, using the traditional art of paper-making that involves 9 steps and takes several weeks. The handmade paper is then meticulously fashioned into the boxes that you see in the pictures. The whole process is completely child labor free and employs 63 local villagers and 20 skilled artisans whose families have been making paper for generations”

April’s theme is ‘An Afternoon Tea Party’.

What girl doesn’t love a tea party?

Providence Perfume Company Organic Perfumed Tea in Brambleberry Rose and Violetta

The makers of these teas are inspired by vintage perfumes. They hand blend these teas in Providence, RI where the owner Charna is actually a perfumer (perfumer rolls off the tongue weird but thats the word for you if you make perfume). This box came right before a rainy weekend so I was so delighted to drink yummy tea on a cloudy day (here in Hawaii we treat rainy days like holidays). I tried to choose a favorite but it was impossible because one contains black tea, roses, berries, vanilla and cocoa (brambleberry rose) and the other contains green tea, night blooming jasmine, Tahitian vanilla, violet extract and blue cornflowers so they both were like drinking a drop of heaven.

Hey Harvey Prince, you need to take a perfume class from these guys! (they actually do offer classes at their RI shop)

Lark Fine Foods Shortbread Trio

I must confess that shortbread is an easy sell for me. The ingredients are essentially butter, flour and sugar (the original three musketeers). These cookies take you to the next level by mixing up the flavors. The burnt sugar cookies contain fennel and red pepper flakes. The salted rosemary still has a sweet shortbread flavor. And the espresso chip is made with whole wheat flour making it taste almost healthy….almost (one constant is the butter……oh the butter). My first thought when I tasted these was that I wanted to eat them with meats and cheeses. They seemed like they would make the perfect deconstructed “tea sandwich”. So here is what I did with them:

For the Salted Rosemary, I topped it with goat cheese mixed with herbs de provence and an heirloom tomato. For the burnt sugar, I topped it with prosciutto and goat cheese. For the espresso chip, I topped with a coconut marshmallow chunk. Nom Nom Nom…..

Wozz Kitchen Creation Balsamic Fig Mostarda

The ingredients of this stuff reads like a food poem: pears, brown sugar, organic figs, red wine, balsamic vinegar of Modena, raisins, ground mustard and mustard seeds. I am eating some right now in between typing because it is just that good. You might be wondering if it tastes more savory than sweet. I would say that it has a robust sweet flavor that makes it delightful over goat cheese or meats.

Dear Balsamic Fig Mostarda, I would eat you on a train. I would eat you in the rain. I would eat you in a box. I would eat you with a fox…..

Here is what I did with it:

The minute I tasted this stuff I wanted to slather it on beef. So I did! And yes that is more goat cheese. What can I say?!? I love the stuff.

Vine Street Market Apron

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. One, nifty tie strap at top of apron makes it easy to adjust. Two, super cool chic pattern. Three, handy dual pockets in the center. And four, extremely durable cotton canvas that will stand up to repeated washings as I am a hot mess in the kitchen.

I may wear this 24/7 to protect me from toddler hands and baby spit-up. People will gawk and stare and I will give a nod and say, “Yep, I’m a genius!”….

Doesn’t the look on my face say, “Watch out messes, I’m coming for you!”

Survey Says:

I think that Boxwalla achieves what they set out to do. They are sending you stuff you must absolutely MUST try because it is oh so good.  Here is how I know because personally I have seldom if ever repurchased something I received in a subscription box. But with all four of the different Boxwalla boxes I have found something or a brand that I love and have repurchased from. For example, in the last food box (read review here) they sent a jar of Coop’s Salted Caramel. Yep, already repurchased. And now with this Balsamic Fig Moustarda, I know it will always be in the house because well see the ingredient list again.

If you are interested in yummy foods that will get you addicted to them then I highly recommend this box.

Anyone try this box? What do you guys think?

What an awesome box! I buy fig jam from Bon Maman or TJ’s, and love it on savory sandwiches or peanut butter, but mustard? Yum!! That apron is amazing, and you ARE onto something! The French preschool teachers would often wear aprons all day to avoid getting their clothes dirty from arts to lunch, so I think it’s a great idea =D

You will have to try this one and it is not expensive so you can slather it all over everything!
