Sunday Morning Coffee Talk- moving past the box doldrums

doldrums

The doldrums are historical maritime term that refers to an area in the Intertropical Convergence Zone where the lack of wind can trap sailor for days or weeks. It also has an official definition of a state of inactivity.

Well, now you know what the doldrums are. But do you know what the box-drums are? It is that time during the month when you are waiting for spoilers and or your boxes to get to you. I was having a case of the boxdrums when some exciting things started happening this week.

Here is week highlight review:

Too funny that the doldrums is a topic! I have been pulling back on a lot of boxes due to getting to many duplicates, and started a new box, Orange Glad. Its the only mystery box where i can pretty much guarantee Liking and using everything. I quit popsugar after December and have passed on birchbox too, with the idea i can swap for needed items. So glad i passed on the nina box too, the only thing i might try to swap for is the little pouch. i have been considering getting White Willow, or Peaches and Petals. But for now at least im saving some money! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hmmm cutting out subs but adding orange glad was a great idea!! I am in the process of box sub restructure and cut Birchbox out too. White Willow looks like a great box but the shipping to the US seems pricey.

Ooh, sub box restructuring would be a great post!

The highlight of my week is probably learning what a doldrum actually is.

I took care of a girl who was a boat hand and she said they once got caught in the doldrums for 2 weeks due to the lack of wind. Ah yes the box restructing. I may work that into the budget post because they are directly linked!! ๐Ÿ™‚

This week I got wayyy too many boxes…I had been doing so well! I cancelled glossybox and ipsy back in February. I decided to cancel Rachel Zoe for the spring because I really wasn’t into the spoiler. HOWEVER…this week I got the birchbox naturals LE (couldn’t resist! $17.20 with coupon/points), 3 months of Julep (because of the great 8 piece GWP), 2 Spring bonus Goodbeing boxes (I was trying to get free shipping!) AND Sephora Play (probably because I was caught up in everyone else’s excitement). Hopefully all these arrive when my husband is out of town

Love reading all the sub box drama, so much entertainment!!

That Julep GWP was insane!! I just recently tried their polish for the first time and it is great so I have been wondering about their makeup. Oooo did you get one of each of the Good Being boxes (normal/mature)? I can’t wait to see what is in them! Did you get your BB LE yet? I am trying the Tata Harper mask now and i can’t wait to play with the highlighter

Did blackheads ball up afterwards like the first review on Sephora afterwards? No balls here. She must have had tons of blackheads. Getting us all excited over balls…

Oh my, I just read that review. If all my blackheads fall out like that I will totally buy the full size!!

Yeah I’ve been wanting to try Julep for a while now and I figured this would be the best way to try a little of everything. I did get both types of Goodbeing boxes: if something doesn’t work for me I can always give it to my mom ๐Ÿ™‚ did you get both as well? This is my first purchase with Goodbeing and I’m excited as I love skincare products! Speaking of skincare products, how is the Tata mask?? I’m just waiting for 30 min I can get to myself to try it…with 3 kids 4 and under that is few and far between. I guess that’s why I have been so into sub boxes. Going to the store is such a chore! It’s so much more convenient to get things delivered to my home and buy the full size products that I like online.
I’ve been wanting to try a clothing sub, but I’m so worried about getting the sizing right! I’ve been meaning to dig up a tape measurer and go at it ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t get both Good being boxes because my house my fall down under the weight of all my current beauty stuffs but I did get the one for mature skin…… Did they have to use the word mature? Couldn’t they have used “lived in” skin? haha. Omg 3 under 4 yrs old!!! Props Mama! Thank heavens for sub boxes!! I agree too about the store.
Ok so clothing subs, my reccomendation (and I will have a review up soon for trendsend) is Trendsend by Evereve, stichfix or golden tote. I like Trendsend the most because it is more my style but basically they send you a box of stuff for $20 then you look over, try on, and keep what you want. (the $20 gets applied to any purchases). If you don’t like the whole thing then you can send it back (free shipping both ways)

Can’t wait to see your Trendsend review. Love seeing all the different options available. And yes, I guess they thought “mature” was a nice way of saying old, but it didn’t sound much better to me. I firmly believe I am too immature to have mature skin ๐Ÿ˜‰ haha

I’ve been cutting back on boxes too! I’m bored with them! Cancelled popsugar cause I Really don’t want another cook book! Birchbox cancelled! I want a box that’s fun and different! Signed up to Sephora. Kept peaches and petals, they always seem to surprise and for 19.99! Bought the special that good being had… 10 items for 20.00! Love their wetome bracelets. Kept Miss Tutii cause they have been great! Hoping Serendipity has a few spots cause they Always impress! Maybe my lack of interest is due to the beautiful beach weather we are having!!! Other then a few the rest are just blah!! Maybe it’s a phase I’m going through! But use to love waiting for spoilers and the postman! But not so much ATM!

    • April 17, 2016 at 11:40 am

Ya Serendipity has really become the sub to watch!! They have been hitting it out of the park. I don’t know how they are doing it. The $10 a month doesn’t even seem like it would cover the shipping!! Also I think recovering from box addiction is a good thing!

I just realized I haven’t been getting Kloverbox for two month LOL I get so many boxes that it just fell thru the cracks!

Love the playgound you got your little guy. I went sub box happy this month. My doldrums was when I realized how much I spent this month on sub boxes.
