Happy Rebel Subscription Box Review + Coupon – Spring 2016

Happy Rebel is a subscription that hopes to catch the eye of all the ladies who crave a little more edge in their mailboxes. Let’s face it, the majority usually rules most subscriptions and it can mean pillow after pillow after socks after scarf. So for those with some rebel but with enough money to blow on subscription boxes this one may be for you!

Part of me was worried I would be sent a knife with crystals on it to use when I am in and jam… or what if I was sent brass knuckles in the shape of kittens and skulls so that I would have ummm the upper-hand in negotiations? I really didn’t have to worry because this is a subscription that curates items with classic style that still have a modern edge!

Cost: $100 a Quarter or $380 for an annual subscription

Use Coupon Code  SUBSCRIPTIONISTA50  To Get $50 Off Of Your Annual Subscription!!! (So nice that they gave us  code for our readers! )

Note: If you sign up today you will get the summer box. However if you want to buy this box or start with it you can. Just order it off of the site or email them and let them know!

I was stoked to find that a portion of the proceeds from this quarter were being donated to Room to Read! They have have helped over 10 million children already!

First look! I dig that each item is wrapped  it adds to the fun of opening each item! The theme this season is : Girls Night Out

Marlyn Schiff – Chunky Chain Statement Necklace: Right away you will notice that this is a really a nice piece of costume jewelry. Especially when it is in your hands! It is heavy and the weight makes me feel like it wont fall apart when I am all tarted up for a night out. Lord knows I pre party and then sort of stumble my way from place to place.

When I was in high school I was convinced I was so cool. It is actually embarrassing. Anyway, back then I would skateboard and wear huge jeans. I would also wear a wallet chain. I once got in trouble for wearing one my dad make me because we decided to try to put a gnarly looking chain on it. This reminds me of that time where I truly loved my chain. It is like an updated version I can wear!

One version chain my dad tried would make my pants fall down when I skated so we had to really take function and fashion into account…

Eylure Lashes – Texture No. 154: I had no idea how popular this brand was until I hit up google. The lashes are really pretty and actually not too over the top, especially for a nice out. I hardly wear fake lashes because by the time I get to that part of the going out on the town make up routine I am already tucked into my second glass of wine. Still, my thin lashes need all the hope they can get!

The lashes are not thick and the actual lashes themselves are thin and more believable then the drugstore super thick plastic kind. I also like that the strip is not thick and so it won’t look as fake as the ones I usually buy.

Sir, these come hither eyes aren’t for you! They are for when I go home to my cat and try to get her to sleep on me! – What I will say to any guy who has the misfortune of being in a conversation with me while wearing these.

Arbotique Designs – Sterling Silver Midi Rings: I have a hard time getting midi rings because they usually are too big to actually be midi for me. I think it is because one of these days I will play a witch in a campy Disney movie remake. Boney fingers and all!

The artist Jen Nelson makes all her jewlery eco friendly and affordable. Usually using recycled materials, I am digging her Queen Bee Crown Ring and Cat Ring. Also these initial earrings are so cute!!! Her story is fit for mothers day because it was her mothers art that inspired her to make her own brand of artistic creations.

These rings say “Make mine a double, I can handle it.”

Essie – Cashmere Matte “Spun in Luxe” Nail Polish: This is the perfect color to add a little edge to your look and still be able to show up for work. After all not all of us can get a cat tattoo on our necks and expect to be employed. Or is it I am in the wrong racket?

Man I want a cool cat tattoo!

Deux Lux – Croc Embossed Vegan Clutch: I first of all love purses from Deux Lux! Indeed when they have a mystery box it is tough to keep me away! (You can read reviews by clicking here) The purses are usually very well crafted and made to feel super close to real leather. I can dig that!

I LOVE this clutch. I wish I was the type to be trusted carrying a clutch while out with the girls but I am not. I will totally lose all my stuff if I did that. No matter. I can tuck this into another larger bag and use it to keep smaller items all in one place.

It feels like real animal without all the guilt of killing one. The colors are easy to blend with a going out dress and I think it will go great with the nail color. I wish it had a chain so I could show it off more!

Is it me or is it weird that clutches are a thing, yet I cannot imagine carrying one because I lose crap all the time?

Verdict: I noticed online that a lot of the Happy Rebel review comments were not so great. I was a little surprised because the box to me is full of thoughtful items that all fit the theme. Maybe because I have it in my hands? I love the necklace and it really does give me memories of my days as a purple haired Bay Area teen skateboarding and feeling like I was really fun. Those days are long gone, and so these items are a way I can tap into that again while at the still time embracing the maturity many would say I still don’t have enough of.

Spoiler for Summer’s Box! A Monochromatic Geometric Print Towel!

I won the box in a contest and agree with you. I was more of a goth kid than a skater punk, but I feel like it suits the grown up version of that aesthetic.

That’s so awesome you won a contest! I had goth friends but didn’t wear much make up so I felt I was already not going to fit into that. Plus, skating was so fun! Though I hurt myself a lot haha. I was into Anime (but not super in Japan for whatever reason not sure why) and just a big nerd. I just didn’t know it. I swear I loved David Bowie back then so much I would have been in a ziggy stardust clique if I could have been!

Hehe I love that you were a skater girl. I was actually just thinking yesterday how much better my 30-45m walk home from middle and high school would’ve been with a skateboard or a bike. I was super into Asian stuff when I was younger, I even took Japanese, but never got into much anime. Though I LOVE Princess Jellyfish and want to read the manga now.

As for my style, I’ve always been described as eclectic. My style changes with my mood, but in high school it was flare jeans and something from a thrift store or sale rack most days.

A lot of my friends were skaters though! I did like anime a lot, but switched over to fantasy/scifi stuff more in later high school years. I was way into D&D and LARPing haha!

When I was like 10 years old, a friend was skateboarding and it slipped out from under him and flew up to hit me on the forehead. I had a lump the size of a tennis ball and it messed up some of the tendon thingies in my jaw so I never have been able to open my mouth very wide since!

Y’all are all way more cool than I ever was. Or am:/ But, I always match my boots to whatever shirt I’m wearing with my boot cut jeans. Or my long skirts! I like that box though. I have a black and white bucket purse from Deux Luxe still in the dust bag. I got it in a mystery bag. If anyone wants it, let me know. I’ll send it to you. Better than sitting in my closet (and listening to my dear husband mutter under his breath about subscription box crap). Yep, he actually calls it that! Isn’t that rude? Good thing he’s so cute!

HAHAHA I get a lot of murmbers about my collection of stuff from many folks. I always feel bad but… I am putting stuff together this week and a post about Caring Crate! I am so excited!

We would have totally been friends in high school. Was Hackers your favorite movie too?

    • May 7, 2016 at 9:08 pm

LOL we would have been the best of friends! I loved Hackers, Tank Girl, anything that made me feel smarter and cool to watch hahahaha

I was totally goth in high school: black clothes, doc martens, makeup two shades lighter than I was and deep burgundy lips. I’m still not over it – I still wear tons of black, leather, spiky jewelry and skulls. And I put my kids in doc martens as soon as they were able to stand.

Anywho, the clutch is super cool. The box generally is great, but $100 seems a bit much for me personally.

    • May 4, 2016 at 4:18 pm

Yeah $100 is hard to part with. I think sometimes I am so deep deep deep in subscriptions I forget how much things add up! I love black clothing… but mostly because it hides all the stuff I spill on myself… lotsa stuff…
