Play! By Sephora Subscription Review by Heat – April 2016

Disclaimer: There are no affiliate/referral links in this post. The box was paid for by Heat7918

Play! By Sephora is a make up subscription that has taught me the meaning of FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out mixed with a healthy dose of box envy. The wait list and long and there seems for me, that I will never get off of it! I imagine that the time I am able to sign up that we will have futuristic make up that we apply just by spraying on our faces. Seriously, who so I have to grease to get my box?!?

Thankfully it helps to have Heat7918, for her heart is kind and she has taken pity upon me to share her box with us all! Yay!

Cost: $10 a month

Below you will find her unboxing photos and comments! Thanks again Heat, it really means a lot to the blog!!! Also you make me laugh all the giggles!!!

Sorry this review is late… it’s SO late that people might think you were the first to post a review of the May box!

April’s box is themed “The It Crowd.” I assume that’s the same as the “in” crowd or the cool kids? For those of us who weren’t cool in high school, we’re glad that Sephora let’s us into the club – as long as we pay our dues and are lucky enough to be off the waiting list… see, it really IS exclusive!

First up is the somewhat oddly named Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil. I tend to get confused and/or overwhelmed when a product gives me too many options: this says to use on elbows, cuticles, hair, face or anywhere that needs hydration… help! Ack! I don’t know what to do with this! I need clear, specific directions!! Just like when I cook. (There also has to be a good Subista punchline on somewhere that needs hydration – a cactus? kitty paws? my over-cooked steak?) Milk, it does a body good?

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment face-serum – The full size of this is $105 for 1 oz! My sample is 10 ml and I have no desire to do any conversions or math. Regardless, I’m excited to try this! Unlike some cat-fur-huffing bloggers, I LOVE to try expensive skincare products. Give me all the skincare goodness, please. However, more confusion in the directions (for me) which say: Can be used daily as a serum (YAY serums!!) or as needed as a peel/mask.  How can a serum also be a peel?? SMH
 6f157d93-773c-42d2-9332-51709b0564e9
Clinque Pep-Start Eye Cream – I should have used this last week when I wasn’t getting much sleep due to work / interviewing for new jobs stress (hence my very late review of this box… work has been… UGH!) Don’t forget to read Sephora’s “four more ways to put feel wide awake and put some pep in your step” including face massage to drain lymph nodes.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien – aka Rose Pink / Dusty Rose… The name of the color is inspired by Rikugi-en which is a metropolitan park in Tokyo.  I haven’t actually looked for the Nars lip pencils that I got for my birthday from Sephora last August but a lot of people have said this is the same color. If so, I like it and would wear it more if were a longer lasting lip color. Most lip colors don’t last long on me… including this one.
 1bb8bfd2-e5b5-4451-b0e1-f2b2b5af1b1d
Sephora Colorful Cheek Ink Gel in peony (light pink) – There seem to be mixed reviews on this one. Many are saying that the color is so light that it doesn’t really show up at all. I’m super pale so I may have some luck. But I’ve never tried a gel blush… just powders and creams. I was thinking this would be more like a cream that I could apply with my fingers but the directions say to use a brush. Okie Dokie.

Derek Lam 10 Crosby 2am Kiss perfume – Sephora always includes a perfume sample as a bonus 6th item. I haven’t smelled this yet – I rarely wear perfume –  and it has mixed reviews.  Perfume scents are such a subjective, personal thing, but this a good way to try a variety without going to a perfume counter – which I loathe! (Mr. Lam, it’s been a long time since I got a kiss at 2am – I need to sleep.)

This Beauty Buzz page has some… interesting ideas: “The unpolished party girl look was all the rage last fashion week, from cobweb mascara to frizzy flyways. To give your lips that soft, worn-in feel, use a Q-tip to blend the edges after applying your Nars lip pencil.” The Q-tip part is fine but purposely crappy mascara and frizzy hair?!? Um, not for me. Also, the “blush hour” tip for the Sephora Cheek Gel says “…to get snow-kissed wintertime cheeks…” – do they know they sent this in April??

A peel and a serum? ?!?! Now see Sunday Riley falls into a price category I can try but Tresor and La Mer…nope!
Shall we call the greasy hair/runny mascara look the 2am kissed look? Because if you are getting kissed at 2am then chances are your hair is a mess and your mascara has started to melt off..

I feel you on La Mer… I feel nervous even just trying high end stuff out in case I get some sort of obsession with it!!!

Good point MBJ – I would be a hot mess at 2am if I was still awake!

Thanks Artemis! I meant to tell you that I enjoyed your Empties and agree with you about the Laneige… no idea why all the hoopla.

Thanks Pnut! What did you think of Play!? Wasn’t this your first box??

Yes! Did the 50 points expire? I was going to give the card away to a friend tomorrow. I just got the May’s today so I will give her that card too and read the back to see if there is an expiriation date. I wish they could be redeemed online but oh well. If I make a trip there I would leave out with something(s) so I don’t go lol.
I gifted the perfume, blush, eye cream away in a goodie bag. I tucked the Nars with the Sephora birthday gift I will eventually check it out and if I don’t like it someone will be getting lucky with a backup! SR is stashed and I loved the MILk oil I read somewhere that the packaging is refillable so I need to figure out if I want to do that.
How I feel… I am not sure it is FOMO mostly 😀

Ok I just opened May and that card expires June 30th so I will look for April’s card for my friend. The drawstring bag is pretty cute I can see Sephora syphoning Ipsy people with the higher end brand names. The Bite lippy is a bullet and appears to be a loud color so hopefully it’s just muted when applied. The Korres Rose Sleeping mask smells heavenly and I just put it on my face and hands and elbows and knees to “sleep”. The liplimer is tiny but cute. Perfume is in free-for-all goodie bag and the conditioner will head there too I tried it before with BB. Happy there is no Sephora junk lol and that is my review!

I am going to stay on just for FOMO’s sake and because I have my 6 month codes from the holidays ending and I can’t be that subless lol!

If it doesn’t have a thinly hidden dirty joke in it is not a review from you hahahaha Thought you are keeping yourself succulent!

Is the mask sample big? I don’t know when my box is coming in! Sooo sad….

Cant wait to see what everyone thinks as well!

Sadly its in a small tube but you should be able to get almost a weeks use of it unless you are using it on your dry spots and then slap the rest on your face then it won’t last long!
I forgot the Origins sample foils. The masks are in foil form but there is a small perfume vial spray which is a pre-treatment before the mask and that interests me (and I wonder if I can use a face mist prior to mask treatment as a primer now)…

I fell in love with the Sunday Riley. I was going to order a full size, but after reading lots of blogs, I went with the Pixi Glow Tonic. I’m so glad I did! You can buy it at Target and it is amazing! It’s not quite as strong as the Sunday Riley, so I use it every night. I swear it has made more of a difference than anything I’ve ever tried. I really liked the Milk oil too.

Thanks for the tip Susie – I’ll keep the glow tonic in mind if I like this SR sample!

I have been looking this tonic up and want to get it. hahahah I am obsessed now
