Kick Back and Get Comfortable:

Subista was so kind to give me a gift certificate to Home Chef. Now I am addicted. Picky but addicted. I am choosy on which weeks I want to get a delivery. I also had to plan in advance not to go food shopping the weekend before (so I have to load up on fruit two weeks before).

The stars have aligned and we got a box…

This is a recipe review of

Pan-Seared Pork Chop with Fennel-Honey Butter with Au Gratin Turnips and Swiss Chard

Here is the goodies all packaged for the above recipe.

And here is everything with the bag opened and ready to go!

Here is the front of the recipe card.

Drools.

And the back with recipe directions and important notes on the left-hand corner.

image

I start with chopping the turnips. I have forgotten how turnips taste. Will I like it? Will I not? Will it make me gassy?

So many questions…

image

I toss my chopped turnip into my beloved ramen pot of my childhood. I made sure the water was boiling when I tossed it in and after a few minutes I turn the heat off.

I will never part with my ramen pot!

image

Here I trimmed and the swiss chard. I am growing two swiss chard in my garden. One of them is a rainbow swiss chard. It is beautiful. I should really eat the pretty stalks but I don’t.

I digress.

image

I chopped up the oregano, parsley, and garlic as well.

image

Now that I finished all that chopping, I drain the turnips.

image

I oiled a cast iron pan.

Ohhhh I can see my microwave. Can I also see my future? Oiled pork chops for sure!!!

image

Mmmmm… pork product.

Pork product is an Anthony Bourdain reference. Anthony Bourdain is from Jersey. Anthony Bourdain is cool. Like Pnut.

image

Ok this looks disgusting BUT IT IS A BEAUTIFUL THING!!! I am going to digress and tell another random story. A long time ago there used to be a restaurant called Cafe 28 that had the best pork chops which was dosed in a special butter sauce. And the same butter accompanied the complimentary bread. It was wondrous. And now I know the secret and I will share with you this digression of wisdom.

Oregano + fennel powder +honey + butter = mouth-watering goodness that is worth each millionth calorie.

image

Back to the turnip of many questions. I added the parsley.

My turnip and parley look thirsty.

image

I added some milky goodness that came in a bottle that Home Chef provided.

I should have taking a picture when I added the cheese. NOM!!! Cheese makes everything gooier.

image

Ok the pork chops were done and plated. I re-used the cast iron pan and deglazed the pork chop goodness with some water and garlic before I added the swiss chard to wilt.

image

And look at that wilty goodness!

image

VOILA!!!

image

Oh my I put a dollop of that heavenly butter and topped the turnip gratin with the leftover mozzarella cheese.

Forget about smell-o-vision. What about eat-o-vision. Can I eat my screen too?

image

Verdict:

I can tell you a zillion ways that I love bone-in pork chops (or anything with bone I feel like the bone gives flavor to the meat). The best way for me to eat my greens is wilted. I am in love with the butter and I plan to make more in mass and freeze it for later! And the questions of the turnip were answered. Yes I liked turnip. I have even added it to my wish list for my need seed order for my garden plot. And it will be a mystery to you whether I was gassy or not from the turnip.

Everything was very yummy and I highly recommend you picking this recipe when it is an option!

Great review Pnut! We still get Home Chef more weeks than not and my husband usually makes one of the three each week – since he’s the chef in the family, not me… but I’m trying. We didn’t get these pork chops but that’s because I always choose the meals and unlike you, I’m not a huge fan of bone-in meat. (That’s NOT what she said.) Raw meat in general kinda of grosses me out – especially chicken – which makes cooking somewhat difficult but I persevere, sort of.

For dinner tonight I had leftovers of Home Chef Vegetable Lasagna – I swear it was like 6 servings even though it’s only supposed to be 2 – with a side of the sweet potato & other veggies mix from the Home Chef breakfast my husband made Sunday. Yum! 🙂

      Thanks Heat!

I used to be scared of veggie lasagna back in my college days the cafeteria would usually have it but one day there was nothing good so I tried it and I loved it!
