Play! By Sephora Subscription Review by Heat – June 2016

Play! By Sephora is a make up subscription that has taught me the meaning of FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out mixed with a healthy dose of box envy. The wait list and long and there seems for me, that I will never get off of it! I imagine that the time I am able to sign up that we will have futuristic make up that we apply just by spraying on our faces. Seriously, who so I have to grease to get my box?!?

Thankfully it helps to have Heat7918, for her heart is kind and she has taken pity upon me to share her box with us all! Yay!

Cost: $10 a month

Below you will find her unboxing photos and comments! Thanks again Heat, it really means a lot to the blog!!!

Sephora has switched from a box to a bag – it’s cute but no idea what I’d use it for – guess I’ll just add it to the box & bag platoon.
Play 1
Bumble and bumble Don’t Blow It – I’m excited to try this product (but not getting my hopes up too much) because the last few weeks I’ve been air drying my wavy/frizzy/curlyish hair rather than blow drying it straight like I have for the past… 17+ years.  I’m still trying to find the right combination of products and / or techniques to make my hair palatable to me. <Sigh> I want to embrace my natural hair and save time/effort but it’s so stinkin’ hard.
Play 2
Benefit They’re Real Mascara – Believe it or not, this beauty box addict has never gotten this mascara before! And I never mind getting mascaras to add to my squad because I LOVE trying new mascaras and I do switch them up at least every 3 months – often sooner. Does everyone apply mascara the way this instructs? I read the same thing somewhere else recently so I guess I’ve been doing it wrong all these years. I don’t wiggle the wand – I just move the brush back and forth multiple times and apply multiple layers until all lashes are slathered in product.  🙂
Play 3
Tarte Tarteguard Sunscreen SPF 30 – I’m not very picky about sunscreens but I know mineral sunscreens are all the rage… so here you go! I look forward to using this and minimizing the chemicals that seep into my body. Plus the bottle is purple – adorable! Purple is my fave! Oh, and it’s a glass bottle – fancy. (What ever happened to Iggy Azalea? I love her songs! I’m so fancy…)
Play 4
BareMinerals BareSkin Sheer Sun Serum Bronzer – I’m a pale girl who loves bronzers & fake tanners so I’m happy to see this! I put a couple drops in my BB cream and didn’t really notice it making my makeup darker so it’s definitely subtle unless you use more. I also need to try it the other ways suggested on the sheet. Also, I don’t remember if I shook the bottle before I used it… you need to shake, shake, shake… shake, shake, shake… shake your booty… oops, digressing with music in my head again.
Play 5
BECCA Backlight Priming Filter – I have a small battalion of primers building up from sub boxes. They’re not something I ever used before and often forget to use them still, but this one looks pretty good.  It gets good reviews, the sheet says it will “soften the look of crow’s feet” (yes please!!), and I do like the “dewy” look. I just don’t generally notice much difference with primers but most make-up gurus seem to swear by them. So they must be right!
Play 6
Tocca Florence Perfume – You’ll know if you’ve read my previous reviews that I’m not a big perfume person but I’m okay if they’re the 6th / bonus sample which it always is with Play!  Though theirs is always the stupid little vial with a cap that’s begging for a spill when you pop it off… why not a mini perfume bottle? Or at least a little spray?? But now, let’s talk about this month’s scent. I actually… think… I like it…!?! This will be the 2nd perfume that I’ve found wearable to me from a sub box sample – and the other was a Tocca too!  (Although I got a Tocca lotion from Birchbox that I cannot stand.) *Disclaimer – scents are very personal / subjective so you may not like this even though I do.
Play 7
Last picture is a group shot. You can see that in addition to switching from a box to a bag, they also switched from a booklet to this foldout sheet. I’m fine with both changes – not really a big deal and they still include good tips.

2 in a room! Love that song too! Oh Pnut… you make me feel understood. <3

I tried wiggling it this morning and didn't notice much difference in my mascara results, but I'll keep practicing.

that shake shake shake is …So fancy. . .I love it that you respond to your box items with a song. My eyes saw the Tarte sunscreen and went boing boing boing!!! You must report back. I have been an advocate of the physical sunscreen for many many years. If you only ever changed your deodorant, sunscreen and toothpaste to “natural alternatives” you would be eliminating the chemicals that are rated really bad.
