Popsugar Special Edition Box Review – Fall 2016

Popsugar’s regular subscription is one of my most favorites to get each month! They also do Special Edition boxes which are a one time deal. Often about $100 to $150, these boxes usually have a bit more luxury and fit a theme. It does feel that they are doing more and more “Special Editions” then they used to do… making them a wee bit less “special.”

I end up buying these boxes because I am so conditioned to. I honestly don’t understand what hold they have over me and my wallet. I am sure some sorcery is at work! Especially since warm weather items are not my favorite. I think it is because when I do get a special edition box that I love, the joy carries me over a few boxes that might not be as awesome as the one I initially liked. Either way, we all know I am going to buy it.

Cost: $100

Also I apologize for the lateness of this review, not that you were waiting with baited breath. I just get bad writers block and then bursts of being able to write. I just don’t know how other people are able to put our so many posts in such a timely manner! More sorcery you think?

Buji Baja – With Love From Eurostar Lavendar Rib Scarf: Ahh Scarves are to subscription boxes as cookies are to Girl Scouts! Basically there is a season where you will not be able to get away from the scarf mania that will decent upon you once a year. Sometimes even twice a year!

This is a large scarf and I like the color. I think it is soft and generally nice as scarves go. I just sort of laugh at the suggest retail of this item being $70. That is absurd. It is cobranded with PSMH and the materials are not luxurious.

Jack & Lucy – Fake Fur Pom Keychain: This is cute and I can’t really speak to this being on trend. Last year I got some closeout mystery bags from Golden Tote and they ended up throwing in one of these keychains. I thought it was hilarious! My keys are most def not “cute” and I can see something like this getting decimated in about a week.

Again the RV is insane! INSANE! $41?!? I mean come on dude. My keys don’t open a vault filled with money and they aren’t made out of precious metals.

If I don’t ruin it, my cat will!

Sloane Stationary – Great Thoughts Notepad: This is a nice notepad again another INSANE RV of $52. Is it bad that I feel bad writing in nice notebooks? I hate to ruin them with my bad handwriting, and I tend write mostly on the computer because my spelling is also bad. This would be great placed on a desk for when your boss swings by. You could causally work into the conversation that you have a lot of “great thoughts” while others might just stop at having a “good thought” and then ever so subtly turn your gaze to the notepad. “Why this lady is on the ball!” your boss will think!

Only you need to know that your ideas for different Cheetos flavors and name ideas for all the imaginary kittens you will have when you retire fill the pages…

Caeden – Linea N1 Faceted Ceramic & Rose Gold Headphones: I think these are cool and I don’t actually own any over the ear headphones. I like the color personally and rose gold does not offend me. Some ladies HATE rose gold and if you do, can you tell me why? I seriously just wonder. I used to hate gold, but now I am just sort of open to everything.

So these go in with a headphone jack and I understand the new IPhones doesn’t have that but you can buy yet ANOTHER accessory to allow you to use it. So that’s good for all those techie ladies maybe?

I am going to put on some EDM and pretend I am a DJ in the mirror with these!

Lancer Skincare – Dani Glowing Skin Perfector: This stuff promises a lot of things. It is supposed to be anti aging, make my skin glow, and blur imperfections. That sounds alluring. I am game to slap just about anything on my face in the quest for the youthful looks that I honestly believe I deserve. I seriously don’t understand why we just can’t all look and feel awesome all the time! It should be a right!

Anyway, looking “lit from within” by using a cream sounds better than my usual glowing face from the effects of wine. I will break this open once I am done with my current cream I am testing and if it is worth $95 you will most DEF hear about it.

How does it know how the difference between my imperfections and my perfections? Hmmm…

Thrive Causemetics – Triple Threat Color Stick (Joy): The idea of even a threat let alone three of them sends my mind into a tailspin. What will happen when I open this product? Will I find myself fighting for my life, and upon winning, see the beauty in the world and then myself?

Oh it has two colors and a brush inside.

I like stick cosmetics for some reason. I use stick blush, lipstick, sticks for my eye shadow, more sticks for my eyeliner. Then I brush a stick to my eyelashes ever so gently. My life is about sticks so maybe this product will be something that sends me into a delight!

I wonder if “Quadra Threat” will ever become a thing? If so you read about it here first!

Verdict: I think the value is there for the $100. But the listed retail values for most of these products are insane to me. I am not saying that some creams and products aren’t super spendy. I just can’t wrap my head around how anyone would buy them at full price. Sure if the cream makes me look younger I will buy it at almost any price, however if it just hydrates I would be a bit pissed off. I have a feeling the trading boards have a lot of ladies who will be taking these RV’s to heart in their trades. I can already see the little tiffs those who try to trade for the fluffy keychain will have… lol

I got my value worth in my opinion as some of these items can be made into gifts and others like the headphones and cosmetics will be fun. I just wish these companies were a bit more honest with themselves about what a real price should be. Maybe that will be my first “Great Thought” I will put on my list…

I tried to swap for a pompom and this girl requested a Baggu bag and several other items. So then I looked up the price and was like wtf for a pompom? There’s a 90% chance it will get gross or fall off in the first week.

Also, that notebook better be made out of artisinal, locally sourced vegan trees for that price…

I will swap my pom with you, I’m Kelly with a garden pic on swap site. I’m a realist, it’s a ten dollar item tops.

Yass! I swapped with you almost exactly a year ago apparently, Kelly.

I like swapping with folks I know. Makes the process so much better. I haven’t swapped in soooooo long

Whatever, I don’t even think I want to be the person that can afford these things! I like rose gold but I don’t own any. I don’t usually wear yellow gold but i think rose works for most skin tones.

$510 for goldtone OTT fluffball?!? Hilarious that a mortal $12 fluffball is a suggested item below.

Love your review and couldn’t agree more about those ridiculous RVs! I adore the rose gold detail on those headphones, but I’m afraid that I would forget that my key chain is a pom and would jump in fright every time I reached into my bag and felt something furry.

LOL I thought long and hard about the fear I too would feel if my paw were to graze this without me remembering! lol!!!

SO I swapped for this Lancer item -an even swap for about a $100 retail on my side- and I like it. Of course full retail is expensive that’s why I love swaps!. I should also mention I love my Lancer The method nourish face cream (retail $125) that was in the Neiman Marcus Popsugar 2014 box and swapped for a second one. I was first introduced to BB cream by Popsugar when they sent a Juice Beauty bb in my monthly box a long time ago and I like that they aren’t “full coverage aka heavy coverage”. I don’t like to wear concealer and face powder everyday so first I apply my Nourish face cream then the Dani glowing skin perfector plus mascara and a tinted lip balm and I like to think Im a natural beauty 🙂

    • October 23, 2016 at 12:52 pm

I love BB creams and such as well! I actually am digging the Lancer product and I wouldn’t pay $100 for it because I am cheap as hell and obviously blow my money on other stuff… but a little goes a long way and it DOES give a little glow! It also mixes well with my BB cream so that is kick butt lol I think it is a great thing to trade for. To buy? I dunno… So spendy!
