———————————————————————————————————————————————–

Now that Sephora has decided to mix things up by sending variations of boxes, I wanted to share what was in my box for those with the order number that ends in 977.  The photos were taken with my phone, so apologies for resolution and such.

I hate to start with a negative, but first impressions are so important.  The bag that my goodies came in is…well…how to say it…not cute.  There!  I said it.  It seems to have a little drawing of each of the items from the box on it, so I took a picture with what I think each item corresponds to. (a la Meg Ryan from French Kiss “Happy: Smile, Sad: Frown.  Use the corresponding face with the corresponding emotion”)

Now then, let’s start with the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold (0.03 oz).  It’s very pretty and glowy, which fits the “Best in Glow” theme of this month’s box.  I have a very pale complexion with dark eyes and hair, so I may just use this as a highlighter on my brow bone and the inner corner of my eyes for some party glow.  I put a swatch of it on my arm and tried to draw an eye with it so that you can tell the difference between that and my next item…

The Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink (0.1 oz).  It’s shiny!  And pink.  Like baby doll pink.  Guess who doesn’t want to look like a baby doll?  Me.  But, that’s probably because I’m not into pink on my face.  Gloves, yes.  Face, no.  I’m also surprised that this is the fourth pink-esque lip product I’ve received in my Play box over the past three months.  I put a swatch of it on my arm in the (sort-of) shape of a mouth.

Luckily, Sephora included The Estee Edit by Estee Lauder Dissolve the Drama (0.5 fl oz) in my Play box, which took those make-up swatches right off!  I just put a bit on my finger, rubbed it in, and watched the make-up disappear.  Interesting.  I liked how easy that was.  I will have to try it on my full face of make-up next time so see if it can get through all the layers.  So many layers.

I received a lovely primer in my July Play box, but I’m happy to try the next item: Cover FX Illuminating Primer (0.16 fl oz).  It’s white and gives me a little bit of a glow, but unlike the Smashbox primer I got in July – it doesn’t even out my skin tone or do much else than give that little glow.  Not sure the glow will show up under my layers, but will let you know.

I’ve heard lots of good things about the next item: GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Treatment (0.3 oz).  It’s supposed to draw out impurities with “activated charcoal”, so I did a spot treatment with it on a couple of areas on my face.  Then I struck a Super Hero pose and shouted “SuperMud Charcoal, Activate!” to help it start working.  (I think that last part is optional.)  Ten minutes later it dried and I wiped it away with a damp cotton ball.  I couldn’t tell if any impurities were missing, so I may have to try it again as a full on mask to get the total effect.  I put some of it on my arm so that you can see the color, and already the edges were starting to dry.

Finally, our “extra” fragrance sample.  I got Stella McCartney Pop (0.05 fl oz), which states that it “layers bright floral notes over a base of sandalwood.”  I spritzed it on, and (I have to say it!) I am all about that base.  I was surprised to like it so much since I tend to like scents that are more floral all over, but this is a nice change.  It makes me want to put on linen and boots and go out to lunch.  That might not make sense to anyone else but me.

That’s it!  Final Verdict: I like and will use everything except the Lip Gel.  (Sorry Pin Up Pink.  Come back when you’re Wantonness Wine.)  However, not sure I will buy the full size of anything here unlike in past boxes.  Hmmm.

Nice review! I gave my pink gloss to my 13 year old. I believe I had box 322, nothing too fancy but I did like the Laura Mercier. The rest went in my stash of stuff to either try or gift. It truly is a sickness. I am going to try to reassess my subscriptions beginning January 1.

Thank you, Dayle! Yes, I ended up canceling my Play subscription because I was getting so overloaded with samples from this and from the free GWPs from Sephora.

What subs do you still have? I have Petit Vour, Play, Goodbeing, Boxwalla beauty, Beauty Heroes x2 and Adidas Avenue A x2 (1 for my daughter).

I just started sub boxes this year with Box of Style, and now I have Popsugar, as well. That’s it, and I am forcing myself not to take on anymore.

Thank you, Onderria!! My artistry skills are not the best, so I was afraid it would end up looking like a pink frog!

What a great review! Much less enthusiastic about the contents of the box, though.

Thank you, Artemis! Yes, sadly that was another reason I decided to end my subscription.

Me too. I really did not like the Sephora branded items those should really be bonuses (like the perfume “bonus” lol).
