Subscription: Popsugar Must Have

Cost: $39.95/month, free shipping.

What to Expect: “Enjoy a monthly delivery of full-sized surprises worth over $100, curated by POPSUGAR Founder & President Lisa Sugar.”

I think it’s safe to say that Subscriptionista.com loves PSMH! It’s the one box that we all continue to get. Some months are a meh, some months are awesome–but overall we definitely love it!

Now, let’s see what October has with comments by Onderria [O] and Pnut [P].

Lollia Life Dream Perfumed Shower Gel: 8oz for $22, white honeysuckle.

[O]: How gorgeous is this bottle?? Too bad it just stays in the shower! It smells nice and light, and a little goes a long way!

Very lathery. Lather-riffic!

[P]: I have been in love with anything Lollia since goddess Oprah lauded this in her magazine. But I am not in love with the scent. You can open the lid and huff it without using it. It smells like soap. Too soapy for me. It will make a nice gift, presumably for someone who also loves Oprah.

I still get suckered by marketing by mostly anything this goddess (likely her interns) endorses. Even after she wronged me with those techie gloves that did not work.

Patchology FlashPatch Restoring Night Eye Gels 5-Pack: $20 OR checkout Amazon for a 30 pack for $50!

[P]: This has retinol which is the only thing that I personally think that works for wrinkles. Unfortunately for me I cannot use this since I am nursing. This will be gifted to my retinol girlfriend who knows I only send her the best (i.e., what really works).

She kids me by saying that I am hinting that she is old but she knows I give her the good stuff.

[O]: I love getting eyepatches and face masks and face creams!

First off, I am in the same boat as Pnut–my friends always take offense when I gift them wrinkle cream. They don’t understand I am only concerned for their pores! Second, Mailbox Junkie has a facemask subscription and I’ve been putting off trying it because it’s powder and I not a master alchemist. BUT I WILL SOOOON! Thirdly… I’m going to go put these eye masks on now…

[O]: These smell nice, but they’re a five minute patch, which is about how long it took me to get them out of all the packaging! I’ll stick with my Klorane eye patches [20m leave on time].

These feel nice, but I really don’t like all the trash each package has!!

[P]: @Onderria I think the reason why they are five minutes is because you will burn your undereyes because of the strength of the retinol. For example, back in the day I tried an Eleizabeth Arden Retinol sample and that stuff burned ma face unlike the milder Neutrogenal Anti-Wrinkle cream. I could just imagine how strong prescription retinol must be.

Framebridge Gift Card: $30

[P]: $39 is for an Instagram picture but you can convert a digital to a 5×5 here. Choose the upload photo option for this. Get your picture matted you paid $9 for it.

Because if I had enough patience I could find some nice frame(s) thrifting if I had time.

[O]: Meh. I wanted to just look at frames, but apparently you have to let them mat it for you. I’m not really feelin’ this site.

Plus I’m sure I’ll forget to use this.

Perpetual Shade Dream On Cotton Lux Sleep Mask: $39

[P]: Holy batman this was bigger than I expected!

That’s what she said!

I saw this mask when it was in a Quarterly/Randomly box and thought “ooohhh fancy”. That caused some FOMO on my part (now not so much that I have one in my paws) and resulted in me buying a Birchbox LE box that had a mask at the time. And then I think I went on a mask kick. I do not recall all the other masks I bought during that time but if you want a mask that allows your eyes to have breathing space I highly recommend these cheapies that work and are substantial for $3.82 with Save and Subscribe from the Amazon which also comes in a pouch! I lost the earplugs though but if you want good ones try these!

I digress, this mask barely fits my small head but its soft. If you have an average or larger head you would appreciate this more. I like my $3ish cheapies from the Amazon better.

Pnut has her Mask and Earplug Game On

[O]: I tend to automatically dislike anything with “lux/e” in the name, but I actually kinda like this. But seriously, $39?

This actually felt nice and stayed on my face all night without straining on my eyeballs and giving me a headache!

Jack+Lucy Pillow and Blanket Set: $49.99

[P]: Oh my, not that I needed another pouch but this really should have been packaged in a pouch. The colors of this set astound me. It reminds me of that horizontal dress that people would argue what color it was. It looked black and white in the pictures but not so much in real life. I could live in an alternative reality though.

Looks for pouch to fit the pillow, blanket and mask in this box.

I digress, back in the days where I luxuriously surfed the internets (versus insomniacally), I always wanted to purchase a travel mask, pillow, and blanket set. This month’s subscription box by Popsugar somewhat fulfilled my wishlist.

Subscription boxes making wishlists happen.

[O]: Not a fan. I don’t like the texture, and I also like that I can’t find anything about this brand other than people trying to sell their subscription items.

Now back to our irregularly scheduled blog…

Special Extras

Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Ointment Body Spray: $13 for full size

[P]: I have tried this on Pipsqueak for her Atoptic Dermititus. My crunchy side of me says no since it had evil mineral oil but my humanity side of me wants to give it a go-ahead. It did not work but it was nifty. The only thing right now we have tried that actually works the best is Crisco (we were desperate) so….

I have a “Crisco”ed Pnut.

Anyway, I threw out much of my Aquaphor (I keep sample sizes in diaper bags for emergency diaper and/or dry spots) but I am keeping this because of its niftiness and will use if I need some quick moisturizing but am too lazy to wait for a cream to absorb. If you know how thick Aquaphor is, the spray does not clog (miraculously) and distributes little droplets of Aquaphor globules.

I wonder if this spray will eventually clog. It’s just asking for it.

[A]: I like spray lotion for my dry hard-to-reach back. This also doesn’t really have a scent, which I’m surprised to see they’re not boasting all over.

Usually unscented things smell. Also, I need more lotion samples because McBoyfriend decided he likes squirreling them away into his car for his dry-arse construction hands.

Keurig The Original Donut Shop Coffee K-Cup Pods: 6 for $0.50-$1 each [depending on quantity]

[P]: I do not have a Keurig but I do have Google. There is a hack for using these K-Cups without a Keurig see here. I just did this because sometimes instant coffee or Starbucks in a can does not give me the caffeinated kick that I sometimes need. It took at least 10 minutes for me to decant a measuring cup through the filter into a cup. Somewhat worth it but I am sure a 50% off Keurig that I can step away from would be better 😉

I should get all fancy and use the below coupon and go down the Keurig rabbit hole.

[A]: I actually don’t drink coffee, but the boyfriend does.

He was happy to receive these, but he prefers French Vanilla.

Keurig 50% Coupon: $100-160 before discount [unique coupon codes]

[P]: Oh this is tempting. I think I am going to hold on to this until Black Friday for a steal of a deal. Or maybe until the bitter end before it expires. I am thinking that a Keurig would not give me heartburn like a drip coffee maker. Or French press. Or maybe it’s just that I do not use coffee up that fast and that causes the acidity.

Coupon is tempting. But the idea of thrifting picture frames makes me think of saving more money and thrifting a Keurig.

[A]: Ugh, my boyfriend and our roommate were BOTH gifted Keurigs for Christmas last year. Because my roomie doesn’t clean things [like the water tank], McBoyfriend is insistent on using his smaller one. So, there’s a large one and a small one next to each other on the counter.

EYEROLL.

Nature’s Bakery Double Chocolate Brownie, 2 pack$1.49

[O]: The packaging looked familiar, and I realized I’d purchased some Fig Bars from Grocery Outlet one time and got so sick of them that they sat in my cabinet forever until I fed them to the squirrels!

I can’t see myself getting sick of brownies, but I’ll die trying!

[P]: Crafted with thoughtful ingredients.

Double Chocolates are very thoughtful ingredients in my book!

It was nomable but not something I would repurchase. That is the brownie bites from Trader Joe’s and Whole Paycheck tasted better and have “healthy” ingredients as well. Thank you Onderria formthat Fig Bar review I have been seeing them on the Amazon with a coupon stackable with Save and Subscribe but never pulled the trigger.

Quaker Overnight Oats in Toasted Coconut & Almond Crunch: 12 for $19

[P]: Knowing this was in this box made me buy a steel cut oats container from Trader Joe’s to do a DIY overnight oatmeal with almond milk (basically 1 part oatmeal with 2 parts liquid). I am totally in love with this simplicity but I thought this might make me want to change up my game (and unfortunately add calories). Fortunately for me, I might be a purist when it comes to overnight steel cut oatmeal because I like it plain (although I admit I love sugar maple instant oatmeal). This tasted really sweet and trying to hard to impress me. Maybe I just need straight up brown sugar.

I am trying to find the perfect copycat Jamba Juice brown sugar crumble and googling is not finding a perfect dupe. Got any recipes?

[A]: Lots of freebies in this box! I liked this oatmeal, but I like Pnut’s idea of making it myself.

Verdict

Pnut: I want to go thrifting with the $20 I saved using the Black Friday code to buy a Keurig and picture frames.

Onderria: This was a meh box for me. I like the idea of the sleep mask and eyepatches, the lotion and K-cup stuff was nice, and I’ll definitely use the shower gel!

I loved the eyepatches and oatmeal in this box! I even popped the oatmeal in the microwave for a minute for warm yumminess. I did not do that with the eyepatches.

Hehe, Elizabeth I microwaved my oatmeal as well! I wonder what microwaving would do to eyepatches though… hmmmmm….
