Taco Bout It Tuesday: Gifting in 2017

First off, I want to direct you to last week’s full-size purchase TBIT post because Pnut had all of her pictures and comments ready and waiting for me, but I didn’t see them! When you come back we’ll discuss life further.

Happy Tuesday! How is life going for you as we count down the last few weeks of 2018 on the Gregorian calendar?

Seriously, who’s a winter-loving person enjoying Decembrrr, looking forward to Janu-ughhh and Febrrrrry?

Essay titled “Why I Loathe Winter”

This was a terrifying trip my brother, his family, and I tried to take to central Washington, only to find the passes closing as we drove on terrifyingly slippery roads.

We will soon be posting our year-end awards voting, BUT we also want you to stay tuned for a giveaway! There might actually be two because I’ve had something from Marie that is LONG overdue for a giveaway!

Finally, I have a few things to ask this week, so feel free to answer one or all:

  • What is your favorite thing you’ve given this year?
  • What is the best thing you’ve gotten this year?
  • What do you really really hope someone gifts you this holiday season?
  • OR, if you do not celebrate gifting holidays, what’s something you’re coveting?

What is your favorite thing you’ve given this year?
I loved giving care/gifts via shopping my sub box stash! Makes all the hoarding worthwhile and saves me money from the Amazon!
What is the best thing you’ve gotten this year?
Good health (having pulled my back last year I am appeciative of being in good health and having my family being in good health as well).
What do you really really hope someone gifts you this holiday season?
Oh my I have been asked this so much and the answers are really unattainable. What I really want is for someone to lactate for me so I can skip a pumping session without sacrificing supply. Maybe something more reasonable is some good coffee that will keep me up because instant coffee or Starbucks expresso cans aren’t doing it anymore. Home coffee drip/pressed gives me heartburn. Maybe I should use my Keurig coupon but that could start an addiction….

What is your favorite thing you’ve given this year?
**I got my mom a few months to random subscription boxes like quilting, soap, and tea. It was really nice hearing how excited she got each time she got to try a new box

What is the best thing you’ve gotten this year?
**A lot of mini vacations and half of a nephew [he’s not coming till April].

What do you really really hope someone gifts you this holiday season?
**I want to put a ring on it!!!

Given: I gave my husband 2 tickets to Bruce Springsteen on Broadway for my 50th birthday! Sounds weird I know, but it was a dream realized for both of us. I got to see NYC, finally, and he got to see Springsteen, again! We LOVE him! And it was the only way I would ever get him to New York!

Received: A Dyson stick vacuum to pick up dog and cat hair!

Hope for: I really want an Instant Pot! Or a set of Artis Brushes.

Covet: Another trip to NYC in the spring, or an Instant Pot, or Artis Brushes, or a winning Poweball Ticket, or world peace would be cool too!

    • December 17, 2017 at 10:52 am

Yay, Dayle I’m glad you got to see NY!! Also, I went and added an instant pot to my wishlist

    • December 18, 2017 at 7:48 pm

NYC rocks! I miss it. Manhattan was practically my backyard (10 minute drive hop on the GWB). I digress, I refuse to goto Chicago Broadway plays now I get so sad its nothing like a NY Broadway show.
If you have any issues with Dyson, their customer service is awesome.
I go back and forth on wanting an Instant Pot. I need to see Artis brush/knockoffs in subscription boxes I am not ready to plunk money them. Please report if you do get one or both!
Would you share the Powerball Ticket with your sub boxers is the big question 😉 XOXO Dayle you are the best and thank you for sharing the wealth via boxes 🙂

Is anyone making/creating any Christmas presents this year? I will be sewing some pillows and be making some crocheted cat toys.

Last year I got the recipe for Applesauce Cake that my Grandma used to make for my dad. He is 77, and I think he cried when he tasted it. I am going to make it again this year. Of all the gifts I could give this one means the most, to him and to me.

One year I would love to give crafty gifts. Top on my list would be essential oil lotion candles.
Been married for over ten years, my maid of honor gave me her bridal gown which is made of this beautiful fabric that I still plan one of these days to make lavender sachets….

Thanks! Now if I actually get around to executing them….

Farmcat, I made my supervisor a necklace with this mustard yellow waxed linen that I knotted with silver metal beads, then I put two handmade glass beads on it that I found at a gem show. Other than that, everyone else is getting Amazon’d! Someone once made me crocheted mice for my kitty, and they’ve got really long tails so Bella loves running after them =D Have fun!!

Love that you made your supervisor a necklace. That is amazing!
That is so cool that someone had made a crochet mice for your cat. Hopefully by next Christmas I will be able to do that. 1Right now I know only a little about crocheting so just doing long strip that can be used to go cat fishing… I have bunch I still need to finish.

Just a little bit of cuteness I wanted to share. As I have been crocheting a lot of cat fishing toys a kitten ( she is either 5 or 6 months old) has been helping me. At first she swats at the yarn for a little bit then she purrs herself to sleep next to me or sometimes on my lap while I keep crocheting. She also likes to test the finish project.

I think next year I will start crafting Christmas gifts in summer. This year we decided kind of last minute about crafting some presents.

    • December 22, 2017 at 6:31 pm

What do you plan on making Farmcat?
I am putting this down because I forgot this year (hehehe you should definately respond so you don’t forget we can remind each other) that I want to get a favorite cereal box for each sqeaker to call her own. I think I would have loved that gift under the tree if I was wee. It would have definately been Frosted Flakes. Not sure now got a few but definately not as sugary as Frosted Flakes.

        December 23, 2017 at 3:16 pm

I think giving the little squeaks each their own favorite cereal box is a good idea. It is a good idea for anybody who loves to eat cereal. This is coming from someone when people ask what I want for Christmas mention mostly food items.
I was thinking of crocheting cat blankets next year. But that can add up to a lot of cat blankets since each person has multiple cats. As for the humans themselves not sure yet. I did buy this pattern to make hats and scarfs with fleece material maybe do that next year. Maybe I can do some fun prints like Donkey Kong or Disney or a nice holiday print. I wonder if there is any fleece with Ms Pac man print.
I have bought myself some fleece with a beautiful winter wilderness scene for that pattern. But I won’t get to that till after the New Year at least.

        • December 23, 2017 at 6:25 pm

Maybe a crocheting over a sockball filled with catnip will be easier? I think if I was a kitty the crochet would be good texture for paws?
I think fleeced Mickey Mouse ears would go over well (or any hat with ears). A deconstructed fleece blanket of Donkey Kong or Ms./Pac Man scarves would also be cool. I don’t know much about buying fabric just a quick search and saw fleece blankets….
          Thanks for sharing 🙂

I would like to get to the skill level where I can crochet cat toys with catnip inside. Maybe I can find a YouTube video and figure out from watching that.
I buy most of my fabric from the craft/fabric store JOANN but there is a lot of online websites where one can purcase fabric. A hat with ears would be cute. Merry Christmas 😀

I’m starting on the presents I’m making for Valentine’s Day. I watched some YouTube videos on crocheting cat toys. I will be making crochet catnip cat balls with tails. I might make those for Christmas too if the kitties like them. I decided against making cat blankets for Christmas.

          • January 21, 2018 at 7:57 pm

Farmcat that sounds awesome! I wonder what will be the better part of the toy (i.e., the catnip ball or the tail)!?! Please update 🙂

From the prototype I made it seems they like the ball part better. But that is where the catnip is. And these kitties love catnip. But the tail makes it convenient for a human to play with them. So it sort of like a catnip crochet ball fishing toy… When catnip is involved it is always good to have some distance between you and the whirlwind of claws and fangs.
Before I make a bunch of them I wanted to make sure they would like the toys. I’m might try to make felt mice for my two kitties. I’m also will be making Valentine’s pillows for humans. I even making one for myself. I can’t wait till I get done with that.
The fishing toys I made them for Christmas I seen them play tug-of-war with them. They love having toys that they can be interactive with others.
