Taco Bout It Tuesday: What Are You Listening To?

Over the past ten years, when I would ride in my brother’s and sister’s cars, they pretty much always listened to NPR or podcasts. I did not like the talking at all; it took a while to get used to and I would often ask them to change the channel.

Then, around six years ago, during a half-cross-country roadtrip my sister put on Stuff You Should Know, and I was in.

Chuck and Josh have a great co-host relationship and they’re pretty funny! I haven’t listened to it in a while though because I started bingeing on audiobooks two years ago.

And by bingeing, I mean I’m getting through 100+ audiobooks per year! Try the 1.6-2x speed on OverDrive <3

Freakonomics came next, and I loved Dubner’s conversations and Levvitt’s peculiar quirkiness that brings together their radio relationship. They discuss the economics of, well, everything and they’ve also got several books.I still have a memory burned into my head when I was part-time cleaning houses for extra money. As I was cleaning the kitchen, Levvitt mentioned this weightloss idea where every time you get hunger pangs, you smell a jar of vomit that has been conveniently hung from a rope around your neck. That’s why economists’ ideas sometimes stay ideas. They have lots of plans that usually don’t involve human emotion.

It also kinda made me want to be an economist!

I’ve been listening to audiobooks for a several years, then went hardcore when I started my library job so that I could recommend books to students. If you don’t take advantage of your library card, why not? You get lots of free stuff from libraries, not just books! Though, let’s talk about books.

OverDrive [links to KCLS in Washington] is an ebook and audiobook rental app through libraries that allows you to download and read/listen on the go FOR FREE! Yeah you might have to wait for things, but stuff like Audible makes you pay.

I like free. I’m also listening to Soulless [vampires, werewolves, supernaturals, oh my!].

Recently though, I started getting back into podcasts again. I don’t even know how I found it, but a couple of weeks ago WHILE I WAS WORKING ALONE in the library, I found a supernatural / true crime and wine podcast and immediately fell in love. It’s called And That’s Why We Drink, and if you love the paranormal, true crime stories, funny hosts, milkshakes, wine, and/or dogs, then this is the podcast for you!

They don’t update their website anymore, but you can find the podcast on Spotify, iTunes, etc.

Em and Christine may tell some very dark stories, but they interject their humor and side conversations in so often that it makes the podcast a lot of fun.

Though, I had to stop listening to it before I go to bed because one true crime story REALLY freaked me out because they never figured out what happened to these two teen girls who [mostly] disappeared into South America.

SO now I wanna hear from you all! What do you listen to? May it be music, books, podcasts, the news, children screaming, static, etc., recommend us some new listening materials!

2 3 testing. Too many characters in driod it cuts off the button let me shorten my commentary. I hardly audio but recently did YouTube audiobook of The Handmaid’s Tale because I could (and still) did not find the book. Also because of hype (and I think you would like this), listened to the Dirty John podcast.

Its like Twitter cuts off with too many charaters lol. The Dirty in Dirty John refers to conning and its not a kinky podcast its a good true crime podcast. You will be able to sleep at night 😉
