Birchbox Review – July 2015

Birchbox cost’s $10 a month but if you review your items then you get a credit of 10 points for each one which is $1 to use in the store. Points can only be spent in increments of $10. Which take no time to get. They have the best point system out of any box I have tried!

This is the “Gateway” box that will lead you down a road I have yet to make my way back from. Perhaps  in that forest of boxes you and I will meet and discuss bronzer while spraying various products all over our hair. The murmurs around us will lead us to our next “Holy Grail” beauty item…

Birchbox has an option where you can add on full size surprise items for $20 more. I am personally more into the samples sizes and so I doubt I will ever take the plunge. Still it is good to know what options are out there!

Birchbox July 2015
Birchbox July 2015

Ohhhh Pretty! This months box is bright and dare I say bold?

Go Bold - July 2015
Go Bold – July 2015

Oh. I see that Birchbox was ahead of me there.

Dr. Brandt - Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant
Dr. Brandt – Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant

Dr. Brandt – Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant: They are trying to sell this as a “breakthrough” that will allow me to skip that “pricey derm appointment.” But what is my derm is super hot you guys? Or what if I like to go in for the attention I so badly crave? Do you expect me just to start to troll the ER again because I am here to tell you that I am not going back to that. I just won’t.

I hope this can exfoliate shame…

Miracle Skin Transformer - Body SPF 20
Miracle Skin Transformer – Body SPF 20

Miracle Skin Transformer – Body SPF 20: I like the idea of this product. I could use a little bit of color added to my sunscreen and it does even out some imperfections. I am a little wary with getting this on other items like clothing or I dunno, the couch. How embarrassing would it be if I came over and left leg prints on your chair? It seems to dry really well, but the real test will be when it is still hot and my legs need to look good but not leave outlines.

Ever sit down for lunch with a dress/skirt/shorts on and the chair makes  indentations on your thighs? Why do they make chairs that do that???

Oribe - Dry Texturizing Spray
Oribe – Dry Texturizing Spray

Oribe – Dry Texturizing Spray: This is a cult favorite that I am going to give a whirl on my business trip. I will bring a tried and true Batiste and then have a head to head on my head battle. I am always excited about getting dry shampoo because I don’t wash my hair every day and this stuff saves my life!

Before you judge I urge you to reconsider because not washing my hair every single day is really only the tip of the iceberg on not always accepted stuff I do.

Stila - Look at me Liquid Lipstick (Beso)
Stila – Look at me Liquid Lipstick (Beso)

Stila – Look at me Liquid Lipstick (Beso): This color is so very bright red that I am unsure if I will be able to pull it off. I often use this blog as therapy to come to terms with my small bird lips. They are just so very small. I don’t think plumpers will even work on these small grim yap flaps… I will give this a try before for a dinner or happy hour. Ya know, when the least loud thing about me will be my lips!

Beso means kiss!

Supergoop! - Anti Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30
Supergoop! – Anti Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30

Supergoop! – Anti Aging City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30: I am always excited to get sunscreen! I swear every little nook in my car and home is filled with sunscreen. I don’t buy the whole serum thing. Maybe one of you ladies who can read and understand ingredients can hip to how well this product works. I do usually like this brand and so I am gonna slap it on the old dermis.

The name Supergoop reminds me Nickelodeon’s “Truth or Dare” show I would watch as a kid! I really wanted to try to find stuff in the huge pancake pile.

July 2015 Box
July 2015 Box

Verdict: I am happy with this Birchbox and I like that I was able to pick my Stila lippy color! I am always excited to try out new little products. However, I did feel like the sample sizes were a bit small this time around and I usually like to try out something a couple times before I go paying full price for it.

*Waits for an awesome annual code to resub*
I do want say however that I wished the Stila pigminted lipgloss was stuck in customs instead of another black eyeliner promised last month that I could have tossed in my piles of black eyeliners :/ but that Stila saved me the temptation of resubbing without an awesome code.
Oribe is awesome have that from Semi-Anually (AKA Quarterly) Nina box.
Have you tried Dr. Brandt Microdermobrasion in a Jar before it got discontinued? I loved that product. I wonder how your sample compares.
No complaints on the sunscreen samples from here lol 😉

Well Pnut we all know about your *ahem* sunscreen addiction! 😉

I was actually excited for the lip glosses but bummed about the eyeliner. Did they even warn us about it? So weird that they would not include something they promised.

I haven’t tried Dr. Brandt. I just have maybe one more application of my Kate stuff from that holiday Popsugar box. It was nice and rough to get at my problem areas. My nose and right by my nose are super in need of a good scrub like all the time…

I bet they will have a great code soon!!!

Maybe it was “stuck in customs” because they found it to be horribly contaminated with biological agents that would have made you blind had you used it. So count your blessings ;-p

Pnut, they still have the “get 100 points when you subscribe” offer, which they pretty much have all the time. That’s how I got Aces status 🙂

This made me laugh! I’m jealous that you received your box, My box was delivered to Peachtree, GA in 10/14. I wonder if I will be receiving a box this month. Sometimes I love BirchBox and sometimes I don’t. I don’t wash my hair everyday either. It’s bad for it.

Look at it this way – you can impress the hot derm with your improved skin quality 🙂

Lol, it is actually funny because once I had the most gross derm. In high school I complained to him because I had black heads on my nose, and I swear he leaned closer to me, then took his two index fingers and pushed on his own nose. It was SO GROSS. Then he said that he had them as well and it was fine. I was so shaken after that!!! He has this thick Russian accent. It was surreal.

I can’t wait to see what you get!!!

  3. July 14, 2015 at 3:39 am

Do they even have any other boxes this month???? I am getting this EXACT box on BOTH of my accounts. Sucks cause I can only use the oribe and supergoop and the other three are no goes 🙁

That does suck!!! I have more birch boxes on the way and they are all different despite the fact that the profiles are all the same…

      • July 14, 2015 at 4:35 am

Ok, that really bothers me, I have two different profiles on mine…. I have a note into them, this is the first time I have a duplicate box…. Looks like time to try to petit your

I love petit vour right now! Did you choose ur glosses? I picked three different ones. I love lip gloss so…

          • July 14, 2015 at 7:54 pm

I did not pick the gloss, maybe that would have helped… No answer from BB yet either but both boxes came today – which is weird usually they are staggered. Oh well, last box for one account, time to get just one.

    • July 14, 2015 at 9:21 pm

Wow! On both accounts? I have a love/hate relationship with Petit Vour. Usually the skincare is a hit and the makeup is a bust. I’m not currently subscribe.

I am anxiously awaiting my Birchbox! I honestly forget sometimes that I sub to this box but I usually like it. I am concerned with how bold the lipgloss is. I appreciate a bold lip color but as a ridiculously pale (the palest shade of MAC foundation) auburn haired lass with red undertones most bold reds make me look like I set my morning appearance goal firmly at Ronald McDonald. (I’m getting the Bella, a bright pink, so we shall see if that works. If it doesn’t I can at least say I have a lip gloss and cat with the same name. The cat predates Twilight by many years.)

I haven’t been tempted by the full-size product add-on option but have been suckered into a Birchbox plus purchase for the last 3 months. I have no will power.

      July 14, 2015 at 4:36 pm

Lol I can understand why Bella’s name would need clarification! Let’s us all know how the lip gloss works out. Does Bella have super long fur?

      • CeciliaA
        July 14, 2015 at 10:51 pm

She does! Long haired white kitty with green eyes. I also have a siamese named Edward who predates Twilight by many years but find myself explaining that one too.

    • July 14, 2015 at 9:22 pm

My Bella is a black and white rat terrier 🙂 My older son named her that because he thought it was a nice girl name. I forgot about Twilight.

I like the lip color but you can use a lip pencil all over to plump up those geisha kips.

My lips are so thin and my actual mouth so small it hardly does anything! I have big bug eyes and a little mouth. Like a cracked out anime character. Seriously when I’m not smiling it looks kinda weird. I really got cheated on the lips part of the face. I’m bitter obviously

If it makes you feel better, I have this crazy wavy hair that somehow looks worse the more I do to it, so I wash it no more than twice a week (sometimes once) and I only brush it when I wash it. I dissolve into a fit of giggles whenever I get compliments, but really it looks way better and healthier since I’ve started doing it like this!

  8. July 14, 2015 at 9:14 pm

One of the reasons I love BB is the customer service, had a back and forth chat with a customer service person. He gave me an extra box on one of my accounts then helped me pick out different settings to try on that account so I can get different boxes. The one thing I took from this is watch the question where they ask if you are adventurous, classic, natural, etc, this is an important one to differentiate between accounts. I am happy with their resolution of my issue this month (which really is an issue with my allergies.)

  9. July 14, 2015 at 9:27 pm

I have to email Birchbox and find out what is going on with my box. It is a seven item box!!!

    • July 14, 2015 at 10:11 pm

Woot! I LOVE 7 item boxes! unless they upgraded you and did not tell you 🙂

We match, we match! I’m getting exactly the same box! I’m actually pretty happy, Sure, the lip stain will probably not be wearable, but it should be better than the bubblegum pink others spoke about. And, I checked, it’s made in the USA. Really, I don’t know why brands that make their products here don’t advertise that fact. Maybe they’ll start so they can stop answering my e-mails 🙂

On first look, I thought this was one of my best Birchboxes ever. (I got the Stila, an Amika texture spray, Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion exfoliant, Coola cucumber moisturizer, and a Juice Beauty cc cream.) Sadly, the cc cream is a dud (and it smells weird), and holy crap is the Venezia shade of the Stila some sort of deranged clown color once it’s out of the tube and displayed in its full glory. I haven’t tried the other stuff yet, so fingers crossed, but given my Birchbox history 3/5 still counts as a good box for me.

I agree that 3 out of 5 is good! I’m always excited about trying things out even if I end up unimpressed! Lol at the Stila shade looking different! I am afraid of that because it’s so long lasting!

        July 15, 2015 at 11:20 pm

I used to hoard all of my Birchbox and Ipsy samples unopened in a drawer because I didn’t want to “waste” them, or I thought I should give them away if there was the slightest chance I wouldn’t like them. Then I realized how stupid that was. (Not to mention I missed out on over a year of review points – GAH!) Now I’m a sampling fool, and it’s definitely more fun this way. And yeah, that Stila stays put.
