Sunday Morning Coffee Talk: 2016 Subscription Box Trend Predictions

images (2)

That is right folks. That is a Delorean……………

Today we are firing up a few dates of our own to predict what will be trending in 2016 subscription box land……………

images

I must warn you that prior to writing this post I had a very large chocolate cupcake (remember I write this on Saturday night because of the time change). I am not sure why I ate the whole thing but at the time it seemed like a good idea….

These predictions are a result of an extremely high blood sugar………

Oui Please:
Vol 1.6: White Winter in the Alps will not ship until late Spring when the Alps have begun to defrost

Little Lace Box:
They will make a triumphant come back by getting back to their roots of featuring up and coming business women

Hamptons Lane:
Despite it being a shipping logistical nightmare, they will offer a pizza party box that contains a pizza stone!

Darby Smart:
They will offer a craft box that all the ladies at Subscriptionista actually complete

Pop Sugar Must Have:
Now here is where time gets a little fuzzy………………..What do you think?!? After December’s epic box, I am feeling really confident about their year but I hate to even say that out loud…

Birchbox:
Will feature a curated box of only Harvey Prince items…….. No one will purchase it and it will end of like the fate of the muffin stumps from Seinfeld……

Beauty Trends:
Glitter arm pit hair inspired by the Lumbar sexual trend…… (I can see the Ipsy Instagrams now!!)

QSFUeFz

Bespoke Post:
They will finally launch a women’s collection and we will all be obsessed with it.

Flaviar:
Will finally do a box on tequila and I will order maybe 3 or 4 of them for myself and hoard them…

Play by Sephora:
Will get better and better but will still not let any of us off the waitlist and so we will live vicariously through Heat7918 for an entire year…

Rachel Zoe Box of Style:
Her Spring “festival” box will include a roll of TP and a “shower in bag” as her styling items

Lifestyle box Trend:
Nail polish!

Alright now I need to hear what you guys think!?! Or wish?!?

Oh and P.S…. I may have changed the name of the Sunday posts to Sunday Morning Coffee Talk (See Mike Myers in early 90’s SNL). If you hate it then I can change it back…..

Love it! Now I’m all vaclempt! Hmmm for predictions I need to get a really good mimosa buzz… I think there will be a resurgence of eyebrow stuff and maybe want able will finally send me the nipple tassels I’ve been hinting about?

      Oh ma gawd.

      My fav:
Duran Duran is neither a Duran or a Duran. Discuss.

      • January 10, 2016 at 10:11 am

HAHAHAH!!!! YASSS!!!!! Pnut makes my morning! Ohhh we can gossip here as well…. I love me some box gossip hahahah

        • January 10, 2016 at 11:29 am

          YASSSS indeedy!

      Pnut’s predictions:
I think the new Harvey Prince will be Skinceuticals in tiny tube samples.

Subscription boxes will realize chocolate sells boxes. Until the goats have a milk allergy, then all chocolate will be dark chocolate. Then there will be a war of the chocolates.

But then some vender will create a chocolate coffee scrub which is neither chocolate nor coffee and the war disapates as happy villagers go to their showers.

Serums will also be the upcoming darling of 2016. Hopefully they all smell nice and give us all eternal youth.

The goats with coasters, bud vases, fingerless gloves, scarves and throws will hibernate. When they wake up from their slumber, who knows.

People will comment “oh this box would be a disappointment if I did not pay X for it on Black Friday”. This will cause several sales of boxes in the upcoming fall as value ladies as myself wait for codes. Popsugar, late to the Black Friday game, felt the wraith of angry villagers villaging and will offer its Black Friday codes on November 1st.

Remember these are all predictions (especially the PopSugar I don’t want anyone sayin where da code on November 2nd Pnut said lol)!!! Credit goes to Subista’s past predictions as most of these are spinnoffs. And with my Subista sistas by my side, we would like to thank the academy…

      I obviously need some cawfee…

      • January 10, 2016 at 10:13 am

LOL Spin offs? No these are all probably facts and so, add to lore that surrounds the seedy underworld of box crime and circumstance

      • January 10, 2016 at 1:24 pm

It shall be called Mocklate Latte scrub….

    • January 10, 2016 at 1:29 pm

And this inaugural Coffee Talk post would not be complete unless we wished there was a box dedicated to Barbara Streisand….. Maybe she could curate with Quarterly?!

      • January 10, 2016 at 5:22 pm

Her intern is talking to Nina’s intern for months…

Along with all the stores they are closing, Macy’s will close their sub box without telling all of us that are still waiting……..

Ipsy will go three months without sending me an eye cream.

The USPS will announce a new division specifically to handle sub boxes so we don’t have to wait three weeks for a box to journey across the country only to arrive melted/broken/incomplete.

    • January 10, 2016 at 11:32 am

Macys will send another you are still on the waiting list first 😉

    • January 10, 2016 at 11:38 am

That’s gonna be a whole lot of dry shampoo! Try not to get in a fight over it and be “so fresh and so clean!” Like Subista!

    • January 10, 2016 at 1:27 pm

If I had three wishes it would be that your USPS prediction would come true and that I would no longer have to wait 3-4 weeks for my Birchbox, Hamptons Lane and Bespoke post…….
And the Mail trucks for this new fleet would be covered in glitter!!!

I predict that Play by Sephora may backfire. I really wanted to get off the wait list and enjoy reviews on it but I no longer want it or am excited about it. That being said I am probably wrong and it will just be me! Lol!

      January 10, 2016 at 9:43 am

Yes I know. The magic ball says odds that they will ever ship to are slim to none and when they finally do I will be 65 and over it….

  4. January 10, 2016 at 7:45 am

Well, now that the K-beauty craze has expanded beyond K-beauty specific boxes and reached Birchbox (and of course, is all up in Sephora in an overpriced way), I wonder how many other boxes will start including one or two k-beauty products.

    • Mailbox Junkie
      January 10, 2016 at 9:32 am

OMG!!! You are totally right!! I forgot about the k-beauty trend!!!! Snail ooze here we come!!!

Pnut said the most accurate prediction ever: People will comment “oh this box would be a disappointment if I did not pay X for it on Black Friday”.

I predict that the Sephora box will become available to all subscribers before the Macy’s box. 2016 will be a year of battle between these 2 boxes… Who will win? Reply hazy, try again. (Thank you Magic 8 Ball)

Cawfee tawk. Sounds just like my Brewklyn-bawn mutha. (Brooklyn-born mother)

    • January 10, 2016 at 9:00 am

      LOL Heat!

Are you from the east coast too? I went to school in Chicago where I met my husband along the adventure that is life. He made fun of my strong Jersey accent when we met. I was aware for the first time my accent when I spoke in class. I am mostly accentless now….

        January 10, 2016 at 11:49 am

Well, I live near Cincinnati and we’re on Eastern Standard Time so… does that count? My parents moved here from NY before I was born but all my extended family is in NY/NJ and we used to visit them every other summer when I was growing up – so I can do the accent pretty well! My mom still has it even after almost 50 years in Ohio!

        • January 10, 2016 at 11:57 am

Ohhh I have stayed at Germantown I think for a wedding. There was allot of cute shopping and we had sandwhiches with pickles from a barrel. I hate pickles but I loved those.

I buy buckeyes everytime I am in Crackerbarrel. And now I will think of you dear Heat when I do so 🙂

I am from Bergen County I would have mentioned in my profile but that is too snooty for my tastes but it sounds like your family is from there since NY/NJ is code for Bergen County usually!

          • Heat7918
            January 10, 2016 at 3:16 pm

Not sure about Bergen County, but I wouldn’t be surprised if my wealthy cousin who lives in NJ is there! My mom’s family is mostly on Staten Island and Long Island (except the “rich” cousin in NJ), while my dad’s side mostly ended up in NJ somewhere (And some in PA) when I was younger – but I think most of them have moved now.

          • January 10, 2016 at 5:25 pm

It’s not like Staten Island and Long Island are poor lol! I do have to say that itis preety awesome it being 2016 and the Staten Island ferry is still free!

Since you are in with the cool crowd aka Sephora the force seems strong with you and it may just may be possible….. I totally agree about this future epic battle you speak of between Sephora and Macys……

  6. January 10, 2016 at 10:32 am

My boyfriend’s sister-in-law just told me of her dry shampoo obsession! I told her I would be offloading all of mine onto her. Oy, I’m gettin’ verklempt. Tawlk amungst ya-selves!

Okay, the peanut is neither a pea, nor a nut.

Darby Smart + Beauty Trends [for adults]: Vagazzling. All the Subisistahs try it, and all are too weirded out by how much they like it. No pictures are posted and it is never discussed again.

PS: Subsista, I’m having a mimosa right now. But I was also drug to the Seahawks vs Vikings game [bacon and cinnamon rolls for breakfast]. I told McBoyfriend that I am torn between my current state’s team, and the team I would’ve cheered for my whole life had I been into sports. But uh…. GO HAWKS!

    • January 10, 2016 at 11:44 am

Ummm… Onderria look up my post response to you floated. No mimosas were involved. Darby Smart for adults lol! I forgot a peanut was a legume I was going to post that this morning but I remembered Duran Duran was my favorite!

      • January 10, 2016 at 11:51 am

“post response to you floated” I don’t understand!

        • January 10, 2016 at 11:53 am

My post posted under Glam Girl… You got lucky you are so nice I posted twice!

    • January 10, 2016 at 1:23 pm

I may have snuck several dry shampoos into various christmas presents I created……. but I have never gifted Harvey Prince to anyone…

My prediction is people are going to buy more one time limited edition boxes. And maybe more of less mainstream boxes.

      January 10, 2016 at 4:48 pm

Yes! PSMH is really capitalizing on that

My other prediction is ModCloth is doing their Stylish Surprise Sale 4 or 3 times a year instead of their usual twice a year.
