Golden Tote Review $49 Tote – July 2015

Golden Tote is a women’s clothing service that is not actually a subscription. You choose an option to pick 1 or two items and then fill out your profile to let them know your preferences. They will try to match your likes with the surprise items that they include in the tote!

Every month the release their clothing items and women make a mad dash to buy either the:

-$49 Tote (you choose one item and there is 1 or 2 surprise items included)

or

-$149 Tote (you choose two items and you get a 3 or 4 surprise items included)

The $49 option does not include all of the clothing options that the $149 does.  Golden Tote is shipping orders $149 or more for free. It does take a long time to get your tote. This tote took over two weeks to be shipped. I would not order this tote if you are in a huge hurry to get your items. I think it must take a great deal of time to go through each profile and match what is on hand with what will make a customer smile.

Pro Tip: Fill out your profile before you buy your tote. If you are waiting until the day new items are posted then make sure to have your profile filled out ahead of time so that it does not slow you down.

Golden Tote always puts each tote in a reusable bag. I have so many of these now it is actually a little shameful. I use them for just about everything! I live in California so I like to think that it doesn’t stand out too much. Sometimes I wonder if I should try to make and outfit out of all the totes I have and then I remember that the reason I have so many is that I don’t know how to make clothing!

Draped Crossover Blouse: I liked this on the model and thought it would be a cute way to update some work clothing for the summer heat. I was right! Today I wore it and it really was light and airy. I did not look anywhere near as good as the models but I did like the pattern and how comfortable the top is. I did have to wear a cami underneath otherwise it would have shown shown WAY too much!

Perhaps if I ever switch careers this top might come in handy…

Chris & Carol – Floral Tank with Button Back (Pink): You should have seen my face when I pulled this out of the tote! I think my disdainful sneer actually pulled a muscle in my face. It still sort of hurts where my lip curled up. Anyway the print on this top is NOT my personal style. In my profile it says that I am in my 30s and a professional, not that I plan on needing maternity wear for my trip back in time to have a baby in the 70s!

The back buttons are cute, and I like the little flair it has. I just can’t for the life of me think how this made it’s way into my tote given my profile. I will say that it has started to grow on me in a weird way because it is so soft. I also have noticed while walking around Portland that many of the kids today are wearing these types of prints. So sorry if I am just slow to adopt the style!

I think the Easter Bunnies wife would wear this on Casual Friday, she would of course get many compliments

Verdict: My chosen item is a hit and it was worth it to me to pay the extra $10 to get a surprise shirt. While it may not have worked out this time for me, I can’t help but find the whole thing pretty funny. I am not big into going to the mall to shop so this is a fun way to get my surprise fix, and try out new styles.

I love your review especially the comment about the top being maternity wear in the ’70s. Are you ever going to post a picture of you wearing the velvet dress?

    • August 3, 2015 at 8:46 pm

I posted and realized that the velvet dress is from ModCloth. Long day 🙂

I really need to get a funny pic of me in the dress up. I felt bad because there was a reader who commented that she liked the dress. I actually offered to send it to her at no cost but she never emailed me. So now I have decided I should really “style” the outfit…

I’ll swap you for it. My sister would love that dress. Is it a small?

I’d give it to you. Swapping between us is sorta silly because you save me from the swapping drama. I just put stuff in a box to you and once it is full enough I send it off. I need to locate the dress though. I will get back to you on the size! You are always the generous one!!!!

Oh and from what I remember it might be more on the medium side (I still need to locate it I have a lot of stuff in boxes still!)

Thanks, Subscriptionista! Small would work. Medium will not. She’s a little thing that likes to jab at me about my weight gain (from my health issues last year).

You should pinch her. Sometimes my sister acts up and I just remember to pinch her. When I do, she yelps out and I said “that was for saying stuff about my ugly feet!” It will teach her quick lol

I will check once I can get to storage which will be soon. I have a work trip tomorrow and the next day so I am getting ready for that (lots to do).

You are generous too. You gave up your TATCHA:)

So, I hear you saying your want to avoid the swap game….but um, I apparently want to look like a pregnant 70s housewife? Despite being a lawyer in my mid 30s? I love that shirt. Anyway, if it’s a small or medium you could email me, and I could replace that for you, but I won’t be offended or anything if Camilla has already claimed it. She seems like a floral kinda gal.

Darn it now I feel bad I snarled the on the shirt! This is always happening, I forget that my opinion can come off rude lol I’m sorry if I offended you in any way and wish that I could produce a puppy pic to make things right!

My twin sister wants to look at it and should she not want it then I will reach out to you!

I wanted more work clothing to make my suits more interesting… This won’t work for that!

Thanks for commenting and reminding me people actually can read what I wrote and I’ll get in touch if she doesn’t want it!

Hahaha, not offended in the slightest. I’d rather enjoy the laugh than have you self censor! Promise! Also, you’re not *wrong* on the 70s/housewife vibe, it’s just y’know dress for the job you want and I’m kinda over working for a living 😉

This made me laugh! If I dressed like the job I want I would be wearing a silk robe to lounge around my mansion!

      Thanks Julie!

It just shocked me when I pulled the thing out. I wanted work type of clothing and this would not be something I could pull off with a suit!

      • August 4, 2015 at 8:14 am

I think it’s hard to balance what we write with our personal preferences. The Burke Decor Spa box had the right type of products. It’s the scents that are the issue because it doesn’t fit with what I ordered.

I’m glad that people are not afraid to speak up for items they like! We like that. I much rather have something go to a good home such as my LE pillow and BD vase, than be at my house where I don’t really enjoy it. I do swap sometimes on MSA, but the MSA forums are scaring me away from swapping.

I am glad that people feel comfortable to say they like things I might not like! It actually has helped me view things differently. I think it’s fun to find out what other people like!

LOL the forums on swapping are scary. I see it as a straight forward here is what I want, this is what I have sort of thing but now I feel its over complicated. I also don’t swap very much because most people who want to swap only have make up and we all know I don’t need any more of that!

Yeah, I’m scared to wade into the msa swap stuff, people can be so vicious over there, but the GT trading group on Facebook is a pretty nice group generally and has help me get rid of a couple things where I had the same “who would wear this in the history of ever” reaction.

Yeah trading clothing on MSA can be touchy. I noticed a lot of people list good that are no from boxes. Also a couple times I got Things that smelt a bit mildewed
