Duncan Bookshelf is closing – Book Boxes are on Sale

It’s sad that Duncan Bookshelf is closing. I bought the Mystery/Crime Vol 1. I’ve been waiting for him to release Volume 2. I don’t recall what is in volume 1 because I read a lot. I was satisfied with what was in the box.  There are other categories such as Urban Fantasy, Young Adult, Geeky/Nerd, Sci/Fantasy.

Store Closing

Website set to close on Sept. 18, 2015

Hi Everyone…

As of Friday, September 18, 2015, the Duncan’s Bookshelf online store will close indefinitely.

When I started this store in late May 2015, I was extremely hopeful that there would be a market for the products I planned to offer. With the huge growth of the pop culture mystery boxes, I felt there was room for one that simply offered readers a great deal on a number of books. Unfortunately, what I’ve determined is that if that market does exist, I have had a tremendous amount of trouble finding it.

The store started off strong in May and June and reached a few new people with the opening of the current website a little over a month ago. However, it has seemed to have hit a wall. I’m not sure why that is exactly. It could be that I have failed to market as well as I should have, or that maybe there simply isn’t the market for this type of mystery box.

So, I’ve decided to close the store indefinitely while I re-evaluate my plans. It’s possible that I will reopen in the future, but there are no guarantees.

I am so thankful to those of you who made purchases and told your friends and family about Duncan’s Bookshelf. I’ve had a great time working on the store and getting to know you.

That said, I am liquidating my inventory as I look at changing the structure of Duncan’s Bookshelf. All full-size Grab Bag ‘O’ Books mystery boxes are now just $19.99 and all MINI Grab Bag ‘O’ Books mystery boxes are $9.99 – except for the newly added Geek/Nerdy Editions. In addition, I have a few single titles also listed on the site. Some of these were intended as giveaways and Friday Deals, but I find it necessary to go ahead and clearance these out, too. You will find that these prices give you a tremendous value.

Also, because of these extremely low prices, I will have to charge shipping on the discounted boxes, which will be calculated based on your location. We offer USPS Media Mail as an inexpensive option, as well as other options.

Additionally, Rewards Points cannot be used and will not be awarded on these purchases.

And as of now, the only autographed book left available to be randomly inserted is the one for Geeky/Nerdy boxes.

This is a sad day, and I am disappointed that I was not able to get it up and going. But again, I truly value your support. I hope one day Duncan’s Bookshelf will be back and better than ever.

Thanks,
Brad

I’ve never heard of this but I’m bummed! I love to read (anyone want be my friend on Goodreads??) and I’m surprised I haven’t seen this on MSA since Liz loves book subs! Maybe I just missed it?

Goodreads is a web site where you can track all the books you’ve read (you can rate them out of 5 stars and write reviews if you want), all the books you WANT to read (read other people’s reviews TOO), follow your favorite authors, have book discussions, get recommendations for new books based on what you’ve already read…. It’s AWESOME! I just joined early this year and the hardest part is trying to remember all the books you’ve ever read – I did them in chunks as I remembered but I doubt I’ve even gotten 25% of what I’ve actually read in my life… But I love that going forward, it will be easy to keep a record. 🙂

I found out about Duncan Bookshelf as a comment on MSA. It might be from one of the older Book Riot reviews. I’m bummed too. I kept checking back for vol 2.

I am so bummed about this! I got the Big Grab bags of Horror, Mystery, and Sci-Fi/Fantasy when they first came out. They were all really good boxes that helped expose me to new authors. I’m going to try to grab some of the new ones before they sell out.
