Pnut’s Birchbox Subscription Unboxing – October 2015

Subscription: Birchbox

Cost:

Monthly $10.00

Yearly: $110.00

What To Expect:

At least 5 items allegedly based on a profile.

Sit Down and Get Comfortable:

I had 2 Birchbox year subscriptions within months apart from each other. My first (virgin) subscription was with Birchbox without a code. By the second subscription, I knew better and signed up with a code! This is a monthly subscription for me now because I am addicted to those overpriced beauty blenders (when you sign up, your first box cannot be a PYS box). I am sticking around for November’s curated box which I am gaga for. Whether I will stay for December, it all depends if there is a snazzy yearly code or if the PYS is something I am gaga for.

Let’s Get This Box Unboxed!

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

October’s PYS promises a black mascara in every box. It was nothing special.

Cue in a commercial male’s voice whispering, “It was nothing special.”

Harvey Prince Yogini

Harvey Prince Yogini

I guess my cherry popped finally. I received my first dreaded Harvey Prince perfume sample. It is in spray form but the scent is hideous. I usually save the mini sprays to scent the garbage when it is not full enough to throw out, but this fragrance is not worthy of scenting my trash. Sorry if you like it.

Not worthy enough to scent Pnut’s garbage.

Jane Iredale HandDrink Hand Cream

Jane Iredale HandDrink Hand Cream

This hand cream has SPF 15. And many Birchbox reviews knocking down the Pond’s cold cream scent. Jane Iredale must have had their Legal Department at war with their Marketing Department all over this sample it states “Sample for evaluation of texture and aesthetic properties only. Amount insufficient to provide stated SPF protection.”

Is Jane Iredale saying that all my mini SPF army is insufficient!?!

Sampled for evaluation of aesthetic memories of my grandmother’s scent.

This set is sulfate-free. I need my sulfates. Since it is a set, this will be going to a good home to a sulfate-free loving person.

Pnut is addicted to sulfates.

too cool for school Dinoplatz Highlighter

too cool for school Dinoplatz Highlighter

“too cool for school” to be capitalized apparently. This highlighter is the only product that I like in my Birchbox this month. It reminds me of Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl highlighter but with extra pigmentation powers.

cool for Pnut too!

Birchbox Group Shot All Together Now!

Verdict: I bought this for the free beauty blender, so I am really not complaining (but kinda). This is my most disliked Birchbox ever my boxes are usually great or average. At least I received 6 items equaling 60 review points instead of the traditional 5 items/50 review points. So really I got a $4 beauty blender, $6 in points, and a crappy box which is a good value when you really think of it. I will get 50 points for the November curated box that I love, so the beauty blender was really a great steal at $9!

Disclosure:  I bought this with my own money because I am too cheap to buy a beauty blender at full retail. There are referral links in this post.

“Not worthy enough to scent Pnur’s garbage.” LOL and yet so sad. That must be a truly stinky perfume.

My October box wasn’t good but may have been better than yours… Glad you got the Beauty Blender you wanted though! I got one in a BB deal a few months ago and I’ve used it a few times – it seems to take longer without really doing much for me. I even looked up instructions online for how to use it! But maybe I’m still not using it quite right?

Sub Bella’s October box rocked. Seriously I would keel over that was one of the best BB’s I have seen. I think my best box had a Beauty Blender in it lol!

I love Beauty Blender it works better than my fingers, foundation brushes (flat and stippling), and knockoff Beauty Blenders. Wash after each use and it should last months! I thought it was gimmicky but it does work take a picture after using it then with your prior method you should definitely see a difference! It does take longer you are right on that. Check out some more YouTube videos the ones with the most views with less time are the best (the longer ones talk too much)!

Yes definitely keep all those perfume samples for garbage scenting emergencies. For something quick I use a vial. For something not so stinky I use the sprays. Yea it was that bad it went straight in the garbage no way I was going to RAOK that!

I know! It is cool that 3 out of the 4 of us at Subscriptionista got BBs this month. It is interesting to see what each other got and our style of reviewing. I definitely have box envy!

Same mascara as you, Amika dry shampoo, ModelCo lipstick, Embyolisse Lait-crime, and Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels – these were the best part! I used them this morning. 🙂

          • November 4, 2015 at 4:18 pm

            *box envy*
The Amika Dry Shampoo is great and works well. Smells very nice too not that Iminhale dry shampoo but this was one of the nicest smelling one if that makes sense. I think I got that in one of BB’s curated boxes.
Also got the ModelCo lipstick I think it was kitten? Very nice and cute packaging!
I love it when my under eyes are refreshed!
            Thanks for sharing 🙂

Wait, dry shampoo is not for huffing?

All I can think is what is up with the hand cream? Why the disclaimer?

I laughed so much my roomie told me to be quiet! Har harhar, I am still laughing at the trashy perfume comment. I think the amount of Harvey Prince perfume I was receiving from Birchbox definitely pushed me away from continuing my sub with them! It’s waaaayyy to sweet and strong, and it’s one of those scents that just follows you all day like a lurking lurker.

    • November 20, 2015 at 1:06 pm

      Lurking lurker = love it!

I am staying on BB for the December curated box and hopefully I will upgrade for a yearly for $88 or $99 with a nice extra. I have no clue about that CS eyeshadow I use MAC eyeshadow 90% of the time and gave my last CS quad from BB away.
