Popsugar Must Have Subscription Box Review – December 2015

Subscription: Popsugar Must Have

Cost: $39.95/month, free shipping.

What to Expect: “Enjoy a monthly delivery of full-sized surprises worth over $100, curated by POPSUGAR Founder & President Lisa Sugar.”

We all held our breaths for this on Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and then a couple of weeks later Popsugar decided they were going to do a deal! I got six months for $153, and saved $61, bringing my box to $25.50/month.

December box inspiration: Celebration, Holiday Glamour, New Year’s, Indulgence, Chocolate, Sparkles.

Swing Jewelry Box popsugar must have
The box doesn’t really fit in my gorgeous cabinet, but it sure looks purdy.

Swing Design Nova Blue Mist Jewelry Box: $36, custom for PSMH. Described by PSMH as a “stitched blue leatherette and suede interior.”

This was a surprise! I am still so impressed with this box. It’s so soft! As a collector of boxes useful and useless, I approve.

Pictured: Ripauste leather bracelet from Oui Please [swapped to get, I’m not OP rich], Tribe Alive glass bracelet from FabFitFun, Luv Aj bracelet from PSMH, Amazonite stone hamsa bracelet from Yogi Surprise Jewelry [my first post here!], and the rest are mostly antiques. I’m not really a bracelet person, but I wear my Luv ombre bracelet almost every day!

Now I have a place to store all my preciouses.

wine cork
Oh, another messy box…

Nima Oberoi Lunares Geo Stopper: $24, and $15-19 for other corks on the site. “San Francisco designer Nima Oberoi handcrafted this bottle stopper to not tarnish or break, so you can reuse it time and time again.”

I put this into our wine stopper drawer in the bar [it has friends now]. I just realized I got another one in my FFF Winter box, but I gifted that away because I couldn’t use the whole kit.

luminares cork
Clearly we use this shelf often…

Pretty sparkly. It looks weird taped to the side of my boxed wine.

sparkly star tape

Meri Meri Silver Stars on White Glitter Tape: $4 for the pink star glitter tape.

This is pretty, and I used it while I was wrapping gifts. My only complaint is that the tape stops about every foot.

Don’t expect to use a giant piece to tape your child to the wall. Not that I’ve ever done that… though I was once duct taped to a wall. Staff training purposes, of course.

BEAUTY

stowaway muted plum lipstick
Muted Plum

Stowaway Cosmetics Creme Lipstick Trio: $30, in Cranberry, Raspberry, and Muted Plum. “Perfect for holiday parties and small enough to fit in the smallest of clutches.”

I gave these to my sister [she is the lovely model in both pictures]. Not a regular lipstick wearer until last year, I’ve become inundated by lippy items from subscription boxes. My sister, fortunately, only gets Birchbox and FFF, so she could always use more lipstick. She said this lippy was really nice, and since she’s my makeup guru, I believe her.

I’d like to think she’s a hot lady boss too, so these mini lipsticks will be perfect for her new blue Sorial clutch when she goes out for happy hour with the team. YOUR WELCOME “SISTER.” [inside joke that I hope she sees =) I do know how to grammar btw…]

FASHION

Luv Aj The Rose Gold Ombré Bracelet
Playing with my new phone. The perfume is not from this box, but was purchased after McBoyfriend smelled a sample I was wearing.

Luv Aj The Rose Gold Ombré Bracelet: $65, and $60 for a similar bracelet, in silver, gold, and rose gold.

love this bracelet. A LOT! I was so surprised to look on the MSA swap site and see that [as of 1/7/15] there were 459 people who were swapping theirs!!! I’ve never seen so many people swapping one item. I liked mine so much I got another.

luv aj ombre metal chain bracelet

Why not? Maybe I’ll give it to my sister. Maybe I’ll wear 8 of them at once. Don’t you tell me how to fashion!

FOOD

My Cup of Cake

My Cup of Cake Classic Belgian Chocolate: $5.99. Warm Belgian chocolate souffle cake in a cup.

This is neat, but requires oil so I’ll have to make it at home and not bring it to work for my choco-drawer. I believe there was also a coupon with this.

It serves two, but we all know it really only serves one…

Special Extra

Tiny Prints to and from labels

Tiny Prints Delightful Heart Gift Tag Stickers + $20 promo card: $9 for similar circular gift tag stickers.

These were a nice little extra that I used for gifts. Unfortunately, I ruined a couple when the plastic packaging sticky stuck to one page. Ah well, there are plenty more!

Ridiculously quick box video!

Verdict: So, around a $165 value [coupons excluded]. Pretty durn good for a $39.95 box! I thought the curation was pretty awesome, and it felt like a perfect December box. Everything was good for gifting or using on gifts, even though I kept most for myself. They delivered on the themes as well, and I think it all really fit as a wintery box.

Did you eat your brownie cup already? How do you think the curation was on this box?

LOVE! I have had the mug cake and it was good, but it didn’t like 100% do it for me. I think I am more of a kodiak cake kinda gal. This review and all the pics were AWESOME! I already lost a lipstick but have two of these boxes. I am thinking about doing a weird giveaway at some point and will save some items from this box for it. I want to to be super weird… ok that could be all the wine talking… free corporate wine so good in muh belly!!!!

    • January 7, 2016 at 10:42 pm

Haha, oh wine goddess, your approval is all I seeketh tonight. I like the idea of doing a weird box giveaway. Whomever receives it shall have to vlog about it over on our Youtube channel!

The pictures make me laugh because they’re a random assortment of pictures taken over the last two weeks. I am glad my sestra took cute pictures for me =)

I love setra!!! She can be our model!!!! I want to use her lips as my own profile photo lol like yeah I have lips ya’ll!!!! I think we should do something weird like video based or story based. I mean yeah follow all our crap cuz love us please, but let’s just get weird ya know? Let’s just put on our yoga pants and eat some pickles while we wait for Married at First Sight to air and not even brush away the cat hair that clings to our shirts (if you don’t have a cat then it can be dog hair or even cheeto dust)

Haha yes I agree to all! I like the idea of doing something fun with videos… will think more on that.

Have you seen the show Telenovela? It’s pretty hilarious and in the 4th episode the main character is eating Cheetos with her besties and a handsome man comes to the door to talk to her. While she’s looking all hot he hugs her and she leave Cheeto crumbs all over his shoulder. I think the actress is Eva Longoria.

Married at First Sight is awesome! My husband got me addicted -LOL!

          • January 8, 2016 at 12:46 pm

I’m in it DEEP, I like go online and read spoilers and stuff. I’m obsessed with the very notion of such an experiment and super dubious of the “experts” I also love 90 day fiancé and have been know to talk at the TV usually yelling “runnnnn runnnnnn run!!! America is not worth this!!!”

    • January 8, 2016 at 3:41 pm

It better include cat hair stuck in packaging tape…

You know, beacause sending cat hair in a Oui Please box as a giveaway would be weird. That definately should be given as an priceless heirloom.

“Every box packaged lovingly with bits of fur” could be our box motto. Lovingly or accidentally… either way, there is always cat hair or my hair somewhere on/in a package.

      • January 8, 2016 at 5:22 pm

I e thought about it. I mean I have all this primo cat hair and what is the use if I can’t share it with everyone?

I loved this box. And the spoiler for January already makes that one a win for me too. Popsugar is definitely getting more on my wavelength with their curation.

    • January 8, 2016 at 11:35 am

Sarah, I go back and forth on if I like FFF or PSMH more… I feel like it changes with each box! But, the Winter and December boxes, respectively, were both hits with me. I look forward to seeing what the detox stuff is. And now it’s time to clean the shower because I reaaaally want a bath!

  3. January 8, 2016 at 10:35 am

I ate that nom as soon as everyone went to sleep! This box was awesome sauce 🙂

    • January 8, 2016 at 10:41 am

Hahah, Pnut my first thought was, “she ate the muted plum lipstick!?” NOT a nom, Pnut!!! Haha, then I quickly remembered there was a brownie bag =)

      • January 8, 2016 at 1:21 pm

Raspberry not the muted plum :p

The cup of cake sounds yummy and fun!

    • January 8, 2016 at 11:36 am

Oohhh! Brilliant idea–how can we mix cup of cake and hot chocolate on a stick to make a truly magical experience?

    • January 8, 2016 at 5:27 pm

I think mug cakes should have been a thing when I was small…. My mom used to make fudge in the microwave so I thinking that counts sorta….

      • January 8, 2016 at 5:56 pm

OMG microwave fudge how have I forgotten thou!
        * adds ingrediants to shopping list*

      • January 21, 2016 at 11:34 pm

I just did this 2 ingrediant Nutella mug cake because I had a craving…
1 Egg plus 4 tablespoons Nutella (I used TJ knockoff version) whisked with a fork in a deep mug then pop in the microwave for 1 minute. Nom.

        • January 21, 2016 at 11:42 pm

DID THAT WORK? It is midnight why did you tell me this!?

          • January 22, 2016 at 5:03 am

YES OH YES IT DID 😀
I had to share because it was midnight and it was awesome and I was hungry and it was such an easy nom…

        • January 22, 2016 at 6:21 pm

It works? my mind is blown…

I love the picture of the bracelet with the perfume bottle! Your sister did a great job modeling the lipstick.

    • January 8, 2016 at 12:56 pm

Thanks, lady! I’ll have to get her to show off some of her other items. She likes writing as well, and last year was blogging for a curly hair blog. Maybe I can do an Onderria + Sister Birchbox post where we show off our new Harvey Prince samples and try brushing dry shampoo into our curls. Hahahhahh sorry laughing a lot… I actually want to do that now…

        January 8, 2016 at 1:04 pm

        You should!

      • January 8, 2016 at 11:23 pm

Yes! Or have a dry shampoo fight. Like hide with a camera and jump out and spray her! I do it to my twin if she wasn’t preggo…

        • January 8, 2016 at 11:24 pm

I forgot to mention you should yell “So Fresh and So Clean” as you spray!
