I remember the first time I read the words Surprise Ride on a subscription box. I thought to myself, “There’s a box for everything, even for people wanting to make their ride better.” I thought it was a box for motorcycle enthusiasts. I ignored the posts for awhile and finally curiosity got the best of me. I decided to read about the motorcycle box only to find out it is a children’s box!
Subscription: Surprise Ride: Summer Survival Kit – A Day at the Beach – one time purchase
Cost $90.00 for 3 boxes – A Day at the Beach, Superheros, and Bees
What to Expect: Items such as a snack, crafts, books and more based around a theme.
Notes: Surprise Ride offers a monthly box for $29.99 with free shipping. Recommended for ages 6-12.
The box is an instant hit for J. No box can go wrong with orange tissue paper in his eyes.
The monthly subscription price is in the middle pricepoint-wise for children’s boxes. There are 3 activities, a book, a sticker book, a healthy snack, and fun extras. My sister, who is an aunt and not a parent, loves children boxes especially ones like Surprise Ride that includes everything you need. It’s a great way for her to do fun activities with her nephew without worrying if she has googly eyes or pipe cleaners.
J decided to do Activity 3 first. I recommend reading through all the instructions first to make sure a specific order does not need to be followed. I noticed in other kid boxes that sometimes things are reused and are unusable after the last item. I do not know if this is true with Surprise Ride.
The directions are above this picture. J dug into it by taking off all the sticky paper and creating an abstract art project. He was not interested in fine-tuning his project.
I am chalking this up as abstract art. J is a tactile/kinesthetic learner. He had fun playing with the sand. My older son would only make sand art if it was through a tube into a sand art bottle and would not touch it with his bare hands. They are total opposites.
I read the book to J and Puss in Boots in the recliner.
The booklet showed color beads. J didn’t care although I did offer him color beads. I have a large 3 drawer unit full of craft supplies for the little guy.
J is embarrassed. He says he looks like a girl with pigtails.
My table is decorated in early preschool sticker motif. One parent, not me, thought it was cute. J can’t wait to use the stickers.
J wanted nothing to do with the snack. I gave it to my sister.
This is the first activity on the Surprise Ride sheet. J decided to save the best for last.
Surprise Ride provided the apron, the cup, the pipette, the colors, and the stain glass. J had no issues with getting dirty.
J felt that not enough paint was included. He mixed colors and dumped a bunch of paint in the water when changing colors. There could be enough paint with a different child.
I need to brush up on my tattoo skills. It was a fun extra.
Verdict: J loves anything beach-related. He enjoyed the activities and extras. I bought this for the summertime, but he wanted to wait until the falltime to do the box. He’s at the age where he requires minimal supervision for the activities in the box. It’s been fun watching him grow throughout the years.

Adorable son and I love abstract art. my boys are kinesthetic learners too.
Thank you. My older son is not. It’s a whole new world for me.
This review cracked me up!
Thank you! It’s always an adventure.
