Sunday Morning Coffee Talk: To spoil or not to spoil…………….

surprise3

This week full spoilers came out for the January Popsugar Must Have box. This created quite a bit of buzz and conversation round these parts. And the question came up, to spoil for not to spoil?!?

Here is an extreme summarization of how our email conversation went:

Pnut: Oooo spoils are out!!
Me: I posted the spoilers

Pnut and I then proceed to have a string of emails about what we are excited about….

Subscriptionista: I want to look but can’t!
Ondererria: I like a spoiler or two but I want the rest to be a surprise!

Waiting for your actual box to arrive when with a couple of clicks you could know what awaits you is a true test of mental fortitude….

A quick reference to the definition of fortitude from dictionary.comnoun, mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger,or temptation courageously.

Yep, pretty much sums it up, facing temptation courageously…………

I have noticed more and more a trend popping up. It is most evident in boxes like Birchbox that have started their curated boxes where they release the entire contents of the box. So it makes me wonder about this great mystery and that is…

We want to be surprised but we don’t at the same time…..

I actually have a personal code for which boxes I will spoil and which I will not (which gets adjusted depending on my patience).

Here is my code for my most anticipated boxes:

PSMH: I will usually give in and look because it takes so long for my box to get here

Birchbox: Same. I usually don’t get my BB until the 3-10th of the next month. So I almost always end of having to look so that I can do the survey. Lucky for me they let you check the box that you havn’t tried the product yet.

Oui Please: I have started to try to avoid any spoilers or social media about this box altogether. It is way to easy to get box envy when you see what other people got in their boxes.

Rachel Zoe: This is currently my favorite box so I NEVER look at spoilers because I want it to be a decadent surprise.

Goodebox or Good Being box: Another favorite so I try to avoid looking at spoilers. With this box, they rotate products so what someone got in November you might get in December so you end up having some spoilage happen.

As you can see in this photo, Linda just told Madonna the January PSMH spoilers and she is obviously VERKLEMPT…as she hates it when her surprise is spoiled……..

    I WANT ALL THE SPOILERS!!!

I am so wanting my PSMH in my paws! It should be here Wednesday if not sooner my boxes go from Chicago then somewhere in Wisconsin then back.

Future topic idea: To stalk or not to stalk tracking numbers. Discuss.

I so love this post. And my Subista sistas 🙂

Its very frustrating to have to wait for a box when everyone else is getting theirs! Its more fun for it to be a surprise but I cant help but look at spoilers anyways. But now I am not buying boxes(saving money) I like spoilers more since if its a great box I can maybe still get one if its not sold out, or try to get it on the swap site.

    • January 17, 2016 at 12:23 pm

I agree. Spoilers are super fun when you are not getting the box! My best swap by far was for the sunglasses that came out the this Winter Neiman Marcus box. I think that the Rachel Zoe method of releasing the hero item is by far the best method. I like knowing I will like the most expensive item.
Good job saving money! Mental Fortitude in action!!

I live for spoilers, I have zero impulse control.

Don’t you find that sometimes seeing the spoilers and liking them just makes the anticipation that much more fun?!
